Did she know it was containing the space stone? How is one of the infinity stones “not bad”?

Odin says her power on Asgard would be "limitless."
Odin himself was probably a big obstacle to Thanos, as was the Ancient One. That's why he waited until they both died before moving on Xandar.
So it stands to reason that Hela was very nearly Odin's equal while on Asgard. To someone with that kind of power, a single infinity stone would be "not bad."
