He draws his power from Asgard ya? And we saw it get destroyed sure, but the movie (Ragnarok) also says "Asgard isn't a place, it's a people", yet weren't they all killed at the end of Ragnarok/beginning of Infinity War? I could be mistaken, but I thought Thanos killed off the Asgardians, which would mean there is no Asgard anymore, and therefore Thor shouldn't be powerful anymore. Right?

Valkyrie, Korg and a smaller number of Asgardians did escape. In the decimation it is not known if an additional halving of the remaining Asgardains also occurred.

Truly devastating what happened to the once proud Asgardians.

Thor to the Guardians in Infinity War: “Thanos already has the Power Stone because he stole it last week, when he decimated Xandar. He stole the Space Stone from me when he destroyed my ship and slaughtered half my people.”

The Asgardian ship did look half empty after all.

Besides, the Russo brothers confirmed Valkyrie and Korg were among the group of Asgardians that managed to escape.
