To the serious comic book fans?

Is this stuff all in the comics as part of the legend/lore is did the movie industry go rogue?

Does Thor have a super powerful sister? Does Thor have his hair cut off? Does Thor ever lose his eye? Does Thor ever have his hammer destroyed?

I was just curious if these plots happen in the comics or if it is completely new stuff the writer/director came up with.

reply

He does, but it's not Hela. His hair is currently short. He does not, but most future stories show him without one. Yes. Mjolnir is in fact destroyed.

Google could have told you all these things.

reply

If he never loses his eye in the comics, why do future stories show him without one? Aren't the movies a separate continuity from the comic books?

reply

Because it’s the FUTURE in those stories and they love to show Thor ends up like his father.

reply

I see.

I don't think he loses an eye ever, and the short hair happened in comics after the movie. Hela is actually Thor's niece in the comics, but essentially the same character. His hammer has been destroyed multiple times.

It combines elements of the comics Thor and Planet Hulk and does so in a fun way. This is currently #6 in my favorite MCU movies.

1. Captain America: Civil War
2. Avengers: Infinity War
3. Captain America: Winter Soldier
4. Avengers
5. Guardians of the Galaxy
6. Thor: Ragnarok
7. Iron Man
8. Ant-Man
9. Spider-man Homecoming
10. Guardian of the Galaxy, Vol. 2

I'd almost consider this a straight up adaptation of Planet Hulk, rewritten to include Thor. It was way closer to sticking to that story than Age of Ultron and X-Men: Apocalypse, if that's even considered an adaptation of Age of Apocalypse.
Either way, I love this movie, and Thor's been a pretty fun and silly character in the comics for a while now, so I'm glad their sticking with that.

The real sister of Thor and Loki is Angela but I believe it was only written that way in recent years. Angela was originally written as an angel-like character that hunted hellspawns in Todd McFarlane's Spawn series. She was one of those chaotic good type characters that different people were trying to get their hands on but for whatever reason they had trouble agreeing who could use her and who couldn't. Not sure if that conflict made its way to Thor Ragnarok or not but it could have.

Ultravioletx is a comic book fan! Who would have guessed? It's pretty obvious that our political views don't coincide, but I'll chit chat comics with you all day! Pretty big reader myself. What's your taste?

reply

There are decades and decades of comics and they reinvent the characters every few years. The Hulk is rage, then he can talk, then he's Banner, then he's rage, then he's smart. The movies are as much canon as anything else.
