Cate Blanchett as ... a ninja who throws knives
What a dreadful, reductive take on Hela and an equally dreadful use of an actress of Cate Blanchett's stature.

shareI loved her.
She wasn't a ninja, she was the embidiment of the bloodthirsty Gods of the old Norse come back to trouble the universe with their blood lust and mayhem, talking their rage and despair out on lesser beings for they are as doomed as any mortal!
And I liked her hat.
I completely agree.
And Ninjas do not stand and fight. Ninjas are assassins, not warriors. A Ninja will stab you in the back. Please get your terms straight.
Her hat rocked.
Yeah! Ninjas don't march right up to the throne they intent to take, they lurk in the shadows!
Ancient Norse deities do, .because they know they're doomed anyway so they're fine with a glorious death in battle and taking enemies with them. Blanchette's Hell got that right, when youshe walked up to the throne of Asgard intent on conquest, she was happy if Thor died, happy if she died, and happy if they both died! Thor was afraid because he had something to loose, but for her that fight was a win-win-win.
She was one of my favorite parts of the movie, i thought she looked sexy as hell.
shareI didn't care for her much myself, and not merely because I'm tired of seeing Cate Blanchett in these roles. Hela is just another mindless Destroyer, pointlessly playing the role of a brick wall for the Real Characters to eventually punch through. At least the Destroyer didn't require an expensive British Person to play it. There was a time when a Hela would have been played by Helen Mirren, who also has/had stature... but then too much of her went South for the Winter of the Rest of her Career, and now she gets to play Grandma Spy with Bruce Willis. So much for Stature. I imagine the same will happen to Ms. Blanchett in time, but for the present she's the one who gets to be the Angry Little Princess in the Little Black Catsuit. Not the Goddess of Death, not a seductress and deceiver of both gods and mortals, just a Pissed Off Little Girl with Super Powers who's pissed because Daddy doesn't love her anymore, and had to be put away because she's a loony psycho a$$hole who just likes to kill things. Ho hum.
shareCate Blanchett is Australian.
shareThe trailers had me thirsty for a great Hela, but yeah she was horribly underutilized and underdeveloped.
I feel like she was barely in the movie.
I agree with most of the posts ITT. I wanted/expected a more regal Hela. Standing still as her assailants turned into skeletons and piles of ash as they came too close to her. Instead I got a Hela who is to be feared because wow she sure can fight and throw some knives.
However, she looked great and did a decent job as nu-Hela. I really liked the movie despite this and the fact that the Warriors Three were so dismissively killed.
