Fact : Hitler did not snub Jesse

I hope they don't show that in the movie because I prefer movies about historic events that don't bend the truth if a situation clearly never happened. The Olympic Comity forbade Hitler from shaking athletes hands after the first day. We all know Hitler was bad so no need to embellish history.

reply

I agree. Owens himself said that Hitler waved at him as he walked past after winning race. It was actually the President of America who snubbed Owens, not inviting him to White House after the olympics. When Owens did get to go to White House, he had to go in via service lift.

Hope film-makers don't do a 'BBC' and use this film as another way to hammer down the public's throats that Hitler was bad. Hope they stick to the true facts and show us some real history!

Wow, that's mild and kind-worded. It's called BREAK the truth and outright lying.

reply

Let's face it, there is little hope of any movie being historically accurate. Even when there is no benefit to do so, Hollywood has a track record of changing the facts.

reply

And with this they are at least being consistent since the American Media lied about this story even at the time. The same American newspapers that wouldn't let Jesse Owens use the water fountains in their offices were hailing his "victory" over the "racist" Germans even though Jesse Owens said the Germans treated him better than America ever did and his time in Berlin was one of the happiest experiences of his life.

Awwww, what a sweetie pie he was. People need to stop lying about him. It's just outrageous. 6 million dead Jews, gypies, and other unfits feel ever so much better. I know I do. So glad I learned the "truth". I see now Hitler was just misunderstood. He's dead, dead, dead.

reply

Mehki, you clearly didn't read the OP. It in no way said anything nice about Hitler, only that he did not snub Owens--which is true. He said we all know Hitler was bad and there's no need to embellish.

I saw the film today and was disappointed that they avoided the truth and continued to add to the lie.

reply

6 million dead Jews is totally unsubstantiated. What isn't unsubstantiated though is how many civilians he killed, mostly on the Russian front.

reply

Hitler was a damn monster. There are hundreds of decisions he made and policies he put in place that demonstrate that beyond a shadow of a doubt. There is no need to fabricate stuff that didn't happen in order to make him look even more evil. He was plenty evil on his own.

reply

Yes. I am glad someone read my post. who knows the facts makes them up also. don't seem right. I would vomit about it but it is far down the list on what makes me sick about humanity. probably at #9 or 11 on the can't wait for the sun to blow supernova..list.

I second everyone here and happy that there are some educated people here. We need to boycott these revisionists' movies.

reply

I didn't know that but thanks for letting us know. Yah if that wasn't true it was needless to put it in the movie.

you are welcome. 1936 Olympics was the biggest event of the time. I think Hitler was people magazine man of the year of some such *beep* a few years running. Bend it till it twangs historians.

reply

Where did you get that "information" on Hitler from, your ass.

reply

Jesse Owens Himself. I know that a quick internet search is not always a valid resource. In the 1930's America was not a good place for Blacks. Jesse was treated more fairly by Germany(because of the Olympiad). I did a research paper in High school on Jesse Owens and racism. The articles I read was on microfiche in the library. I cross referenced it 3 times. New York times, Washington post, and either Newsweek or people magazine(can't remember) had no inconsistency in the story's. I worked hard on it and it was a term paper. I got a B. sort of lost faith in school after that. It was a lot of work.

reply

My apologies.

reply

Don't worry. That one I just made up. I did no such paper. See the problem in playing with historical facts.

reply

I agree. This movie was very black and white in that aspect. It felt like a dumbed down Disney movie. Yeah, Goebbels and Hitler were evil people. But no need making them into Darth Vaders in the movie itself.

reply

I was really enjoying the movie right up to the point where they inserted the Hitler snub in the invented scene where Brundage took Owens up to see Hitler and then demanded that he see all athletes or none at all.
It is common knowledge that Hitler was given this instruction on the first day.

***The only programme I'm likely to get on is the ------- news!***

reply

how else would you portray them. Hitler was by definition evil. I would say he was more evil that Darth Vader. He killed millions of people and wanted to get rid of all Jews and others he considered undesirable. Making him look less so would be unhistorical.

reply

You could make a movie where George W. Bush is totally evil. He hates everyone, he hits people randomly, he attacks Iraq because he is racist and just wants to kill Arabs. That's one way to show us who he is. Another way is to show him how he really was.

For some liberals the first kind of movie would be closer to the truth as they see it. Just like some would think a movie where Hitler rapes women all the time is great and realistic because clearly Hitler was evil. So him doing evil stuff is realistic, as evil people do evil stuff. This was how Race looked to me. It was good people doing good stuff and evil people doing evil stuff, Disney. In reality it's not that black and white.

reply

As far as I remember Darth Vader destroyed a whole planet. Less evil?
