Eric and Taylor could have fallen in love

But they were both too damaged and live in a hyper-masculine, toxic world. Eric has internalized homophobia and Taylor, God I don't even know what is wrong with Taylor.

They had so much in common (poor backgrounds, attending school with silver spooned scions, being gay, broken families).

The "what-ifs" kill me. What if Eric said no when the other boys told him to summon Taylor? What if Taylor never stole the gun? What if Wes hadn't confronted Taylor outside the school that day? What if Taylor's mom hadn't called 911 to report the rape?

Who wouldn't love Eric's tinkle?

They didn't seem like a good match to me.

So much could had been solved if the people communicated honestly, in each subplot. Instead mechnisms are set into motion to avoid being honest to each other. I think one of the reasons why people are unhappy with the ending is some expectation that there would be some kind of kathartic meeting between Eric and Taylor to come to terms with what happened. Instead they both go down a spiral of self-hatred, which is probably more realistic but also messes up the dynamic a bit, as the big reveal answering the question of the first episode happens very unspectacular almost like tying up a side plot.
