Really? The Magical Hispanic? Really?

Historically The Magic Negro is the black supplemental character who appears seemingly out of nowhere to save his white fugurative massa even if the story takes place in the contemporary North. He is often magical and childlike at the sane time. He is sometimes a She as in Queen Latifah's latest fare. Green Mile and Hand that Rocks the Cradle are the not so distant examples of the Magical Negro rushing to save the day even if at his or her own peril. Enter this bookworm in the latest episodes of American Crime. He shows up with laptop in hand on a crusade to help boy who is not sure if he was assaulted by the boy with whom he had a crush on. He's helping a lady who seems like she has no direction unkess some drama is going on. Sort of like the disease Eminem's mom had when she cried wolf about him being sick so she could curry attention. One of the most obnoxious characters on tv replete with mushroom soup under eye bags and a German poodle hairdo, she makes Marsha Clerk of People vs OJ seem like Marsha Brady. Yet, the Magic Latino character is written to scooby doo mystery help her, no questions asked, no pay, no sense, all the while While she barks orders at him like he's her servant. I ain't wit dat!!!!

You look like the guy who played Chris Dixon...I don't know -- maybe it's just the tie!

I'll have to look it up but if you are talking actor named Elvis who took heat in the schools I agree and even wrote such on his page. I carry myself in a similar good guy way and similarly am caught in positions like him not wanting to argue with female(s) who get cocky because they know we can't come at them like a fellow female might (and like bullies they wouldn't try the Tude on a female. I too am in Schools. Uncanny resemblance. 1 of my kids is a dead ringer for this shows protagonist so much so that when I mentioned it to him on cue (similar issues of false bravado, self centeredness, latent homosexuality, stoic) he admonishes I don't partake in television watching.

Ironically, since though Elvis Nolasco's character was perceived to favor the African-American students over the Hispanic students, the actor is Dominican.

Well, according to ex-Presidente Vincente Fox, blacks don't want to be "magical," anymore, so Mexicans are available to take over that job, lol!!!

Anne Blaine always looks like she hasn't slept well for several days. I wonder how Lili Taylor managed to do it - maybe with the technique supposedly used by Dustin Hoffman: actually not sleeping (or sleeping very little) during the shoot.

"Mushroom soup under eye bags;" never heard that one before but, man, that's harsh!

reply

I don't think she really had to do much to appear that way. She always had a worn look to her,I thought that she looked like that in six feet under. So all she would need is not to wear makeup.

reply

That brings up this thought - how similar is Anne Blaine to Lisa Kimmel of Six Feet Under? Not necessarily in social status but in attitudes towards those around her.

You mean like Mr. T?

(Sebastian was a white hat, too. 😃 )

This thread got derailed but I hated how the hacker came out of nowhere to save the day and left the same way.
It's also called deus ex-machina. Really lazy writing

If I don't reply, you're most likely on my ignore list

This explains the majority of the entire season.

lololololol
That is actually pretty acurate.
I was like "Hm... Really? ok..." on that part.
