Season 1 got frustrating whenever...SPOILERS

Russ and Barb kept on assuming with no inch of doubt that Carter was their son's killer and pressed on with that as if they knew him. People that usually keep saying a person killed a loved one without a doubt are usually people who know the suspect well enough to think he's the only one. Other than the fact Carter and Matt were both mixed up in drugs, they didn't care about any other alternative, especially considering Hector could have told the police any lie or truth just to stay away from Mexico. In the end, Russ putting a bullet in Carter's head made him more racist than Barb as someone who just blindly believes it has to be a tall bearded black man who'd kill his "good" son as opposed to an irrational junkie who could have been just as culpable. They never once seemed to accept that Aubrey could have done it despite the new evidence, it was like they just enjoyed having their first suspect and didn't want to lose him. In the end, Russ probably got his revenge for real if Aubrey was the killer since his murder of Carter drove her to suicide. Whether it was Carter or Aubrey, his choice killed them both, but shouldn't the show have given him and Barb more time to be swayed by reasonable doubt than just painting them with blind prejudices?

Accepting Aubreys story would mean accepting that his some was an abusive drug addict and dealer. Even with all of the evidence, he was blinded by trying to preserve this pristine image of his son. It seems as though once Barb was over it and left crazyville Russ took the torch and really ran with it. Even though he was originally all about accepting the drugs and trying to get down to the bottom of it. I don't think race was his main motivation if any. You have to remember that up until she confessed(the end) they had been told that without a doubt this man was responsible for their sons death. And it doesn't really seem like the police explained too much about the new perp.
