I'm English, so I predict that many great shows have been cancelled while more *beep* gets renewed. In the UK, great shows like Being Human and Utopia get canned whilst Big Brother and another crap carries on on popular channels.

Less outlay for a bigger return, basically. They cost less to make, and reel in more viewers. You can boggle over the foolishness of your fellow man to your heart's content, but c'est la vie I'm afraid.
Been like this for a few years now. Somebody makes a trashy show, it becomes popular, so others make similar shows, so they start to take over the schedules, so they become the new "norm". So long as we've still got the BBC, willing to make a superb show like "Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell", despite hardly anybody watching it, there's some hope.
At least, there is until the Tories axe it. It's on their list.

Can't compare the networks at all. E is a gossip channel so of course they won't cancel the Kardashians. E does not have actual shows.
The Kardashian mom had her show canceled quickly when on a major network.
the host of Big Brother is married to the head of CBS, No chance of it getting canned.
You have to know the backgrounds of the shows and networks.
"Reality" shows are cheaper to make. Hate that Forever has been cancelled.
