Watching the first episode now and likely won't continue so I'm hoping someone will tell me whether it's ever explained how he keeps coming back with a current haircut or whether it's just the first of many stupid goofs.
the intro explains the dying and coming back. him having a certain haircut simply means that in the present he had a haircut. he keeps dying often and then comes back just a short time later. im 4 episodes in and i dont think its more than a few hours from him dying and then coming back.
the intro is NOT meant to say he went through time 200 years to the future from his first death. he simply ALWAYS wakes up in the sea when he dies. he has lived through world war 2, for example.
I understand. What I don't understand is how he can be reborn with any sort of hairstyle. Also, will he need to repeat any needed dental fillings, etc? Also, what happens to his body and clothes when he dies? Do they vanish or not? It seems like both options are problematic and that people would notice.
he vanishes together with his clothes. in one episode he gets hit and killed by a car while he crouches on the sidewalk. he then vanishes before the driver can get out of the car. as im not too deep into the series for now, i can only assume it will be sort of a "will anyone find out? catch him on video?" deal with him dying often.
on how he has a certain hairstyle... well i guess that is something that will never be adressed. its one of the things we as viewers either just overlook or get hung up upon so much that we stop viewing. the real world reason is easy: they cant always apply hair extensions everytime he wakes up in the sea for budget reasons, so they just let him keep the haircut. we do get flashbacks to some world war time scenes and some even earlier ones. he does have somewhat different hair styles then.
Interesting. Now I wonder whether his overcoat will disappear if he had it draped over his arm rather than wearing it. Same for the car he might be driving (wearing) or the umbrella he might be holding. Of course you're right about them glossing over these things for practical and literary reasons, and you're especially right that some viewers won't be able to get past too many of these problems. That's why I appreciate that you've addressed some of them because I'm unlikely to find enough interest in finding out for myself.
It seems to have suffered from bad advertising. Everybody who sees it loves it (well - nearly everybody. Clearly not the OP!). Unfortunately very few people saw it! Most seem to have discovered it post-cancellation.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I find concussion quite invigorating.
The show has a few flaws, for example Abe's number. Yes, there were babies who survived the Nazi KZs, but those babies didn't have their KZ numbers tattooed into their arms. Babies born in KZs were tattooed on their upper legs, if they were lucky enough not to get killed immediately. The arms were just too small. Also even if he had been tattooed on his arm, those numbers wouldn't be in the same place 70 years later, because of the growth of the skin. I thought that this was just some really lazy way to connect Abe with Henry's WWII experience.
You're absolutely right about the tattoo, but not about the reason for Abe being written that way. Keep watching - Abe's origins do have relevance down the line.
