Every show I watch is doomed.unbelievable. Am I cursed? Bloody hell.

Firefly, New Amsterdam, Community, arrested d, journeyman, life, the list literally goes on and on.

I'm starting to think there is something wrong with me. Do I have bad taste? Every time I stumble upon a show that is slightly off the beaten path and interesting, it is viciously and maliciously canceled by these God damn networks, like an ogre, lurking in the night , coldly hacking away at babies and puppies with an iron sicle.

I used to think that I was just a cool guy who wasn't a lemming, "I'm just different than the rest of the Schmoes who suck up reality TV and csi clones.", but no, is it possible that I like crap? How else can I explain it?

Jesus Christ.

I love every show you listed so I guess we both have terrible taste... especially Journeyman and Life I really believe these shows would have gotten 6+ seasons if it wasn't for the writers strike

It's more do to terrible network managing than your perceived bad taste (those are good shows). I haven't watched a show in this time slot since, I think body of proof (and not at all before that). I found this to be a good show and I wanted to see how Jo would react when she found out about Henry's immortality... Guess I set my hopes too high.

reply

I also have bad taste, I guess, because I liked the show very much.

It is just un-fü<£ing-believable how many times this has happened with these network shows. It's almost as though they want viewers to watch cable and Netflix. It would be one thing if it happened once or twice or even a small handful of times over the years but invariably, every network show that I find cool or even mildly creative is cast away, like a dog turd, chucked over the fence into the neighbors yard.

It's truly unreal.

Indeed.

And you have to keep watching new doomed shows forever with no way out. And it sound like you might have more than one partner.

Life at least had a satisfying conclusion. Unlike New Amsterdam that had like 12 episodes and then it disappeared. And Arrested D had new episodes created by Netflix, no?

Everyone thinks the show they watched that got cancelled was the best. And for them, it was. They got involved in the lives of the characters, they cared about them and they wanted to get to know them better as the series progressed. But, as you well know, it doesn't always happen that way.

I do think the theme for this season is safe. Castle gets renewed; Forever gets cancelled. Castle is going on its eighth season, and has a built in fan base, and even though this season sucked badly, there are people who loved it. Same with Bones. Renewed for an eleventh season. This past season upset lots of viewers (I stopped watching about 4-5 seasons ago, I have some friends who still watch...). And yet, there are fans who will suck up anything as long as B&B snuggle and kiss. Yuck.

So, whether others like the shows you choose to watch is not important. I like that you have your own criteria and stick with it. You will learn more about yourself if you make your own choices and not follow the leaders.

That being said, I have a friend who never watches the first season of anything. If it gets renewed, she may buy the dvd's or look for it on a streaming site. She is tired of falling in love with a show and then loosing it. Sound familiar??

It's a hard life, being different.

At least I can take comfort in knowin there are a few of us out there, living in suffering and anguish.

I remember, I really liked "Journeyman", "Awake" and "Traveler", not to mention Jericho....all died an early death...good, interesting shows like this one.

Firefly, New Amsterdam, Journeyman, Life were shows that I really liked that were cancelled too soon. I would add Surface, Threshold and Rome. Although Rome was an HBO show and did get two good seasons.

At least LIFE kind've wrapped up decently eh...but still...

You are not alone! I know this feeling, too! Here is my list of shows, which in my opinion have been cancelled way too early:

A Gifted Man, Battle Creek, Birds Of Prey, Black Box, Body Of Proof, Breaking In, Dark Angel, Deception (2013), Eli Stone, Firefly, Forever, Golden Boy, Growing Up Fisher, Lie To Me, M.A.N.T.I.S., Medical Investigation (2004–2005), Monday Mornings, Perception, Resurrection, The Chicago Code (2011), Zero Hour

House to Wilson about Cuddy: She is not some floozy in a bar. She is the floozy I work for.

My list isn't as long as yours... but it began with Ringer, carried on to Emily Owens, MD, through Cult, and for now ends with Forever... I'm about to give up on new series television altogether. :-)

It's sad that it's gone but its ratings were poor. Its cancellation was completely predictable. 22 episodes is better than 13 or none. Anyways more than half of the time shows don't maintain their quality going forward.

Um if a show has no episodes then no one would cry over it as it wouldn't have been made to be seen by anyone?!

You rather screwed up your rather negative point there...

Forever certainly should have had a 2nd season anyway as I'm sure word of mouth would have increased viewing figures when it was underway. ABC = Are Blind Cretins.

It used to be a network gave a show a chance before cancelling it. "Touched by an Angel" got horrible ratings its first two seasons, but CBS stuck with it and it became a huge hit for them. It just needed time to find its audience.

Networks don't do that anymore. If you're not a hit right out of the gate - or you don't have rich backers like the Marvel shows do - you're doomed.
