Anfisa has been given all the power in this relationship. Jorge will simply whimper and go to sleep in the car. Dude, she is going to continue demanding more and more. The 300k ring, the 45k dress and the 10k handbag are just the beginning. He claimed she could get whatever her heart desired - big mistake as she will take him to the cleaners and return to Russia gloating. Grow a pair Jorge and let her go home with her nice American goodies.

IMO, he underestimated her expensive taste. I bet he thought she was kinda poor, and that he could impress her with expensive things like $500 dollar shoes, and handbags, or jewelry in the $1000-$5000 range. A lot of girls would probably be impressed with things like that, but this girl he picked wants things that would probably require an income ten times what he makes.
To sum it all up, she's a gold digger, and he's trying to buy love. They both suck ass.
I agree that he possibly underestimated what she was going to require, and that she took total advantage of him saying he would buy her whatever she wanted. She saw her chance, and ran with it! The thing is, he had to already have known she was like this since they had spent lots of time together, and took many trips as well. In his first episode he said she has expensive taste when he said the cost of the handbag she demanded, and he also had said that she is bratty when she doesn't get her way. She was for sure like this, and he knew it but went with it anyhow. He seems like a nice guy, and there is so much pain in his eyes when she berates him for not spending loads of money on her...it was so apparent while he was watching her at the bridal store. He's a nice guy, but is an insecure idiot for sure!

I'm beginning to think he's got some sucker for punishment trait in him too. Because anyone watching from the outside can see how much she hates him and doesn't respect him at all. Yes he likes her body but I think another man looking for a mindless trophy wife by now would have thrown her rude diminutive self to the curb.
Maybe part of his attraction to her is how mean and "hard to get" she is. So if he is able to ever get her to crack a real smile or be nice to him, it'd be like the end all be all rainbows most glorious moment ever for him. Maybe she does throw him a bone of niceness here and there, so then he's always chasing that high, those moments.
It's a bad cycle and I hope he just gets a backbone and ends it. People have a right to demand better treatment from others. Now I even feel a little sad because hindsight I acted like him to some extent with some stupid guy I was all into. Looking back he'd be blatantly rude and disrespectful and treating me like some annoying piece of nothing that he could throw minimal attention to to keep me strung along. But I continued to grovel hoping for those "good" moments. I don't even have a logical reason or good excuse for myself except it's like I was stuck in some vicious cycle. Ehhhh! Jorge needs to demand better treatment. (Just like I should have.) Because we're teaching those other people they CAN just be jerks and throw tiny bones to keep us happy.

I agree that he probably does have the "sucker/glutton for punishment" mentality.
I think there has been only one or two times where he actually smiled an actual "happy" smile. Mostly he just looks defeated whenever she is talking to him like that. She is devastatingly immature the way she behaves. She offers him no reasoning for her feelings aside from "you are irritating me" "you are so stupid" etc. She can't seem to hold a normal conversation at all, and that is going to get old very fast. She can't possibly spend her life like that but she sure seems convinced that she can! Any time he presses her to explain things she just does the "you are making me mad. It's all your fault" BS
She is a horrid mental/emotional abuser who doesn't give a crap about anyone or anything that can't see how devastatingly beautiful she seems to think she is. If she can't get anything out of someone, she has no use for them and thinks the nastier she treats them, the more likely it is she will eventually get her way. Unfortunately Jorge seems to want to allow her to play her game. You are right about it probably making him feel great during the off chance moments she isn't belittling him to get her way. He counts it as a victory. I can imagine her being a pouty bitch to him, him saying "how about I go take you shopping"? She empties his wallet on whatever she wanted yet certainly didn't need and flashes a millisecond of a smile with her disfigured trout pout and he goes back to thinking that it's all worth it...so he continues the cycle again.

And why would she give a crap about somebody who cares only about her looks and would leave her tomorrow if she gained weight and/or had some type of an accident that would leave her disfigured?
She treats Jorge the same way that he treats her. He sees only her looks, she sees only his wallet. He would leave her if she wasn't good looking anymore, she would leave him if he wasn't rich anymore.
I personally don't like her, but I dislike him just as much.

I love how Jorge or George is reacting to her craziness. The fact is he can't afford her and is probably broke and doesn't want to admit it. He is just trying to deflect with his excuses. I think he just underestimated her.
Either way, they deserve each other.

One thing (among others) that annoyed me about her was saying she was mad he didn't get her flowers, xyz...it's like she has all these secret expectations of him that he's seemingly unaware of and then she holds it against him, giving her a permanent excuse to be a jerk.
you know, if she is truly going for being that awesome trophy wife, again, in this mutual exchange "gold-digger hooks up with guy who only wants trophy wife" thing... she's doing it wrong. Deep down I don't think any person wants to be treated like trash, and most people would NOT put up with that. Billionaire men or whatever she wants could find much better trophy wives elsewhere. She shouldn't be so cocky...

Well, good point. I'm not trying to paint victims in a bad light. I just get that she has some serious guard up and hatred in her heart so I feel someone else somewhere had to treat her like an object too or something

Jorge went overseas because he didn't want to date a "typical" American woman. Jorge is the typical modern man. Spineless. I would never let someone kick me out of a place that I'm paying for.
He said American women are too independent. Well if that isn't irony I don't know what is. Anfisa is cruel but she is just what he deserves. He is shallow, and only "loves" her because of the pictures he saw online of her. He had the fantasy of being with the docile, hot, foreign trophy wife, but instead got someone who wants to nail him to the ground. He obviously sold her that he could provide all these things for. He's getting his just desserts.
