Power dynamics in these relationships

ihave heard many Americans saying "American men can't handle highly educated, independent American women. They have to look at subserviant cultures where the woman is more of a second class citizen to find a mate they can handle."

When you hear Jorge talk about feminism and Chantal talk about how American men don't treat her like she wants to be treated it sort of plays into the above narrative.

how many of these American spouses do you think we're, at least in part, attracted to these foreign spouses becusse they could control them?

How many thought somehow the culture outside of the United states was more conducive to family, etc?

Personally I think the narrative is naive.

Hmmm...not sure but there's definitely something going on. I've never understood what the attraction is for so many men to Russian women. I mean, you don't see that many American women running over there to find a husband. As much as I don't want to believe it, I have to wonder if these men are taking advantage of women they believe to be desperate to get out of that country (particularly the Ukraine as that seems to be a particularly depressed area). Nobody can convince me that ANYONE has to leave the country to find a mate. Fortunately I think most of the couples on this show (and K1 visa couples in general) are sincere, but the Russians are the sketchiest. I mean come on, the lady from this season who won't tell her fiancé she loves him??? That's no a priority to that dude??? Pretty messed up IMO.
