Why do people have a problem with Devar

I think of all the foreign husbands/fiances Devar is one of the nicest ones and really loves his wife. It seems like people have a problem with him though calling him a user and lazy because he just started working, but do people understand that the fiances can't work until they get their green card or proper working permits? I think people are too hard on Devar, especially when he says he wants to help his sister back home. I think a lot of people have a problem with the men fiances anyway.

I think the fact that Devar is a young nice looking man and Melanie is a few years older and not so attractive sends up red flags for some people.

But they more so pick him for "not supporting Mel", but he is working and going to school now. It's almost like people forget the fiances can't work when they first get here for a while.

reply

It's not that they can't work "for a while". It takes less than a month to become legal to work.

But that's the work visa, I thought one of the couples stated they couldn't get a work visa while on the K1 visa too.

After the immigrant arrives on the K-1 visa, they must first get married, then file for adjustment of status (to get a green card). Part of the adjustment of status paperwork includes a form for receiving permission to work. It takes between 60 to 90 days to get the employment authorization document in hand after filing for adjustment of status, which again can only be filed after marriage.

So these couple who put off the marriage until Day 85 or so, are just further postponing receiving the work authorization. So an immigrant who arrives on a K-1 and waits almost the full 90 days to file adjustment of status, is not going to have permission to work for about their first 5 to 6 months in the USA.

A work visa is different...that is a whole different path to the USA, where an employer sponsors the visa. The requirements for that visa are strict in what the job can be, and what your qualifications must be. From what I've seen, none of the K-1 people on the show would even qualify for a work visa to the USA.

Eh. I mean she's no super model, but I don't think she's unattractive. She seems kinda big boned, yet has an athletic body from working out. I think she's more attractive than Anfisa. I'd go out with her. And, for some reason, she looks to me like she'd be amazing in bed.

Basically, if I saw them out, I wouldn't think he was too attractive for her. I must admit, I find their story a tad boring, so I half ass pay attention when they're on.

I agree!

I think most posters like Devar. I find him hilarious. I actually think he and Melanie are a fairly normal couple. I was hoping they would show more scenes of him with Melanie's son because they were fun to watch. It was more like Devar was the cool older brother than a dad lol.

I think the other thing people really would have had a problem with was him sending back money when the sister just chose not to get a job when Melanie is the breadwinner.

I missed their season and have been watching this season and didn't even know she has a son! Wow, shows me how much I've been paying attention. Anyway, he doesn't bother me really. I think Melanie will do a good job of keeping him from screwing her over, I'd be more worried about him.

Devar's my man! He's got the island spirit through and through. He was probably quite happy to stay on the island the rest of his life. As a resort lifeguard he was able to have a decent income, lots of short flings if he's into that, and christ he was living in a tropical paradise. That would be hard to give up for any young Jamaican man. I think he's legit doin' it for love.
