So why are prenups acceptable when a woman (or her family) wants it, but not when a man wants it?
I remember the $hitstorm over prenup when that older guy wanted it for his younger Filipina wife (Mike and Nikki perhaps?)
The old man was having a woman 40 years younger leave her country to come marry him - and told her she had to sign a prenup and agree they weren't going to have any kids. Because of his leverage over her it seemed very greasy, almost as if she was his sex slave.
Here, Pedro says he wants to work hard and have a good job, yet his family goes nuts when a pre nup is suggested. She does not have a good job, he could actually make more money than her with a little effort. That's why I would be scared- looks like he may have no plan on working at all....
Ever watch Seinfeld when George asks for a prenup? She laughs at him and says "sure, I make more than you do." That's the cause for concern. He talked a good game abour wanting to work, etc. The young wife was coming just to be with the old man, who would be her only means of support
The only reason prenup is considered ok for Pedro but not ok for Nikki is that Nikki is a female. Her older husband does not want to prohibit her from working, he just doesn't want to be on the hook for supporting her if she leaves him. Why is that wrong?
If Pedro is expected to work in the US, why shouldn't Nikki be? Just because she is a female? And if she decides not to work while married to her husband and be a housewife, if they get a divorce she should get a job and support herself and not expect her ex to take care of her financially for the rest of his life.
Remember that the old man was married before and the ex wife took him to the cleaners, using the sexist US divorce courts to rob him blind. Of course he is going to want to protect himself this time around!
Yes, I watched Seinfeld, and I do not see the relevance here.
Since his English is so poor? I doubt his signature would mean anything. There's no way in hell he should sign any document in a language he barely speaks without legal counsel.
shareRegardless of gender, if you're not with someone just for their money, why would you be SO ANGRY over it? Cause even if you sign a prenup, usually there is a stipulation that you may get some money still of things go awry. It's not always an all-or-nothing thing. His mother seems like another trashy bi*** from another country that thinks Americans owe her and her family a damn thing. Disgusting tantrum she had.
shareI don't get the whole prenup thing at all. She appears to be a typical young single female with just average resources. What does she have that needs to be protected by a prenup? Feels like something introduced by producers to stir up drama. Their storyline is pretty boring.
share^Thank you. Why on earth would she need a prenup? What assets does she need to protect?
shareYeah I was wondering that too but in a preview clip I just saw she tells the attorney they end up consulting for the prenup that her parents are concerned about any inheritance she may be entitled to so apparently someone in her family is apparently loaded and they want to make sure Pedro doesnt get his hands on it lol makes me wonder if Pedro knew about it because I don't know why he won't just sign the prenup
sharemy gut is that 'Mommy & Daddy' have the wealth and that they are protecting any funds which will filter down to her
shareI got married and have a prenuptual agreement. My wife has a lot of assets and there's a lot of family wealth where she has shares in a number of family assets.
There's a few pros that I think people overlook.
1. If one spouse has more debt than the other, it can protect the debt-free spouse.
2. Most people getting married probably don't actually figure out their assets before hand, a prenup forces couples to do it. At the very least, couples should do this with or without a prenup.
3. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best... With the 50% divorce rate it is foolish to leave anyone's assets up for grabs in divorce court.
I've never been able to find any statistics that show that a marriage with a prenuptual agreement is less likely to succeed than a marriage without one, though in my internet searches before getting married, I looked at the pros and cons. The cons are generally pretty weak (compared to the pros), and usually are emotionally driven more than anything else.
As with any legal document, someone who doesn't get independent council to review the document is asking for trouble. I often hear people who are upset over their prenuptual agreement eventually say they signed it without knowing really what was in it. Really? Also, anyone who comes at the 11th hour with one of them isn't serious about your best interests either.
No, not the mind probe!
First off, IMO, their story is kinda boring, and dumb. Why wait till last minute for EVERYTHING.
So the lawyer couldn't do the prenup in enough time, but they were able to do one online? Is the online one legally binding, or whatever?
And last, I get that there's a portion of this show that's scripted, and a portion that's real. What I don't know is the percentage of true/fake. Their story seems to be 90ish percent fake. That whole wedding scene when the parents show up at the last minute, then her brother at the last second. It looked like something that's overdone in a lot of cheesy movies.
If her family's feelings about Pedro are true, then they owe him an apology.
They should add the families to the reunion shows, so they can see for themselves. Like Nicole's family talking trash about Azan solely based on what Nicole tells them. And Chantels family sh!tting on Pedro, when they can now see all the lies and deception came from her. They can even see her getting drunk and grinding her ass on all those strange men at the club, in front of her fiancé.
