I'm just kinda over this whole show....

I'm not what I would consider a gullible person. I know that reality television has a certain amount of script involved. I know TLC is one of the worst culprits of this.

But this season really takes the cake. What is their reasoning for Chantel's fake name? Is it so she sounds more spoiled than an Aquanetta? Nicole and Azan....he clearly can barely stomach her. When she talks sometimes she breaks out into this goofy grin like she's in on the joke. Anfisa and Jorge...I never did think it was real, but then to find out that the car she allegedly keyed was a rental car from the production crew?

At this point I'm questioning what actually IS real on this season. Matt & Alla perhaps. But then the whole Patrick drama with the wedding....

What parts of this season do you think were actually real?

reply

IMO the only thing real is the name of the show.

reply

Agree with all the above. And while I do think Matt and Alla seem like a sweet couple, I still would bet he met her through one of those mail order bride trips. I saw a documentary on them, and men make several trips to foreign countries to attend these mixer type events to meet women they saw on a Mail order site. I just do not buy that Matt met Alla the old fashioned way.

My feet have wings, barf bag.

reply

I've heard of this too. Common destinations are Columbia, Ukraine, Thailand and the Philippines.

I don't think I will be watching next season. I agree that most of this season felt completely fake.

Do any people still meet each-other the old fashioned way?

reply

True. I suppose what I meant by "old-fashioned way" was simply meeting someone in person or on-line, because you are both looking to date. I don't get that vibe from Matt and Alla. They're situation seems much more forced. I get the feeling Alla is/was a mail order bride.

reply

What's wrong with meeting someone on one of "those trips"? Are you disparaging men who go on these trips, or are you disparaging the women who show up on the socials to meet the men, or both?

And how is this "wrong" in your mind? How would this be a "mail order bride"?

Please let me know, so that you can justify your Ms High and Mighty Judgmental self.

reply

Deanc...please read my posts. No where do I say it's wrong. Just like I don't necessarily think Jorge and Anfisa's deal is wrong. The only part that's wrong is the show not being truthful with how some of the couples met. The first and second seasons were good, but as the seasons progress, the couples seem more and more staged.

If Matt met Alla through a paid trip, and they are happy, good for them. But they should be honest with how they met. If I recall, Matt said he happened to met Alla while traveling in Kiev. It's simply my opinion that this doesn't sound truthful. I get the sense he met her another way. Again, noting wrong with it at all, but they should be honest.

reply

I'll disparage them - deliberately seeking out a woman from an economically disadvantaged country, to fulfill a very narrow role that most of your contemporaries find distasteful - it's exploitative and pathetic. If both parties are happy, hey, great. But the practice itself creates an imbalance of power, which "insures" a more successful outcome for an insecure man. Plenty of American women are happily housewives (there is nothing wrong with that). It's ridiculous to pay upwards of $10,000 to meet someone you expect to darn your socks and have supper on the table promptly at 6, someone who will be unable to work or even drive a car for a significant period of time.

They're coming to get you, Barbara!

reply

So you look down on men who travel to other countries to meet women right? And your reason is because of the "economic imbalance"? But wait a minute, doesn't that same "economic imbalance" occur most of the time anyway? Isn't the man the bread winner in most marriages regardless of where his wife is from?

So clearly, you can't justify being a judgmental ass because of that.

But let me ask you. Would you limit others to meeting people on their own block? Or would you limit them to meeting people only in their own city? Where would you stop? Ok, let's block people meeting others to their own state.

You see how close minded you are?

You close your mind to people willing to not limit themselves to borders. People are going to be different outside of our little communities, and if one wants to venture out and meet them, then good for them. They aren't limiting themselves. You are satisfied to stay in your own bubble. Good for you. But please don't judge others who refuse to limit themselves to what we got here.

If they pay a certain price to a company to arrange that they meet like minded women. How is that bad? The women need a partner, and the man needs a woman. No one is forcing anyone to do anything. If a mutual attraction does not exist, then it ends. It would be just like what happens here, except in another country. I think you would do well to do more listening and thinking, and less judging.

On a side note, I don't effing care what my "contemporaries" think. They all thought Hillary was going to win.

Yep.

I have a friend that goes to Russia every year for vacation. When he is home he is constantly on the computer talking with Russian women.

I don't know what his fascination is with them. He has brought over 3 different women. 2 on K-1 visa's. Two of them took off with other guys. He actually married one of them, the only one that wasn't a bitch, (or should I say "the B word"?). She left after a year or so.

I might be able to understand it more if he was a loser, but he's in his early 30's, handsome, smart, college educated, speaks 6 languages, doesn't drink too much, doesn't smoke, and he has a great job. Oh, and his parents are loaded so he's going to be coming into an inheritance.

If I wasn't married I would have probably tried to date him. However, he only seems to be interested in dating Russian women. Not even from Ukraine, just Russia. He must like abuse.

I dabbled in it for a bit a long while back, just as far as the email stage. Any of them email back, but as I continued to write back I noticed that the replies seemed very generic, so I started writing very short emails focusing on something very specific they said only to get generic responses still. At that point I stopped, but can see where people could become very involved with it, especially if they are lonely and desperate.

Are you sure that he's not Patrick Bateman (from American Psycho)?

reply

HA! No, actually I am NOT sure. The thought has crossed my mind, because there must be something there that I am not seeing. Everyone is different behind closed door, aren't they?

reply

Next time he's in Russia, offer to water his plants or something. :)

Some men do.

Some men can not handle their perception of American women.

I'm disappointed with how fake a lot of it seemed to be this season, too.

reply

How do we know Chantel's name is fake?

Anyway yeah I think a lot of this was scripted and also, a lot of editing. I didn't realize how scripted this show was until there was an episode with Russ and Paola where they were saying that they haven't been away from each other long while married (something like that), when in one of those follow up episodes, she was gone for months back in Columbia designing shoes. It's like the production team is forgetting what they told them to say or do before lol.

reply

I was randomly thinking today that the drama about going back to Thailand or not was probably scripted, too. Noon always seemed forced and awkward about it. It's possible her dad was just a LITTLE bit sick, after all, lol. and she was bad at exaggerating the drama for the show. Because it was all "omg Thailand and lose the green card and be banned from the US forever or not go and then the dad is sick andkafal." Her claiming she doesn't care if she keeps the green card or not. But then in the reunion it was just "Yeah, we're back now. Yeah my dad's doing better. Yeah we're here now for a couple of months so we don't lose the green card." Wait what haha, what was all that drama about then, all the back and white "Thailand forever/US never or just stay in the US and neglect your sick dad forever"? oooh right fake
