There is something extremely off with Chantel's family. I understand why they would be upset about how they found out about her getting married, but they seem extremely controlling and I don't think they understand how unhealthy their relationship is with their daughter. On one hand, I don't condone what she did, but I understand it, because it seems like her parents don't let her be her own person. They treat her like a child instead of an adult and she acts accordingly.
When you look at the whole pre-nup situation, Chantel did it because her parents wanted her to, not because she chose to. Even once they arrived at the wedding the first thing they did was check the pre-nup. I mean, if she didn't do it, then what, are you going to stop the wedding? You gave her advice, let her live with whatever consequences she has. These are helicopter parents in the 3rd degree that won't let their children grow up and it's not allowing her to grow up and mature in a healthy manner.
I gathered that the pre-nup was to keep him from inheritances they would leave her...then he couldn't divorce her and get his half in community property. Heck parents...it's called a TRUST. Have the dosh doled out to her in bits so that he can't walk off with a huge chunk of it and she can't mismanage it (go on wild spending sprees etc.)

I am willing to bet that had they not signed the prenup, her parents would have written her out of the will, so she would get no inheritance. I could be way off base, but that was the vibe I got. Especially since that was the first thing they asked about and looked over it right away when they got there.
I can (in a teeny tiny way) understand her parents being hurt about her lying, if I look from a parent POV. Mom's want to help plan and shop for gowns, and dads want to be asked by the suitor if they can marry their daughter and then be able to give the daughter away. But that is the only reason I can relate to the hurt. It didn't seem though that that was the issue they had. They just simply wanted to be in control.
The brother drives me nuts. It really isn't any of his business, and he really treats Pedro bad. He acts like he is above Pedro and has not really given him much of a chance.
Side note...does anybody else think that River looks like a combination of Sideshow Bob from The Simpsons and the actor/comedian Eric Andre'? He is one unfortunate looking kid, with a crappy attitude to go with it.
I can't die! I have 43 twitter followers that depend on me! oh, and I have a daughter.

I agree with your sentiments. If I were the parents, instead of forcing or at least strongly convincing them into a pre-nup, I would have stated if you go through with this marriage I am going to write you out of the inheritance. I would make it clear that you are putting our family estate at risk by y our decision, so if they choose to continue to go through with the marriage, then that is their own decision and it doesn't have to impact the family.
The parents are extremely controlling and I think on a larger level, that's the issue. She obviously didn't feel comfortable telling them she was engaged because she probably felt like she would be judged and her parents would meddle. They are a large part of the problem. She certainly is immature but her parents are treating her like a child instead of an adult.

I thought it was extremely tacky how her "mommy" and "daddy" immediately wanted to see the pre-nup at the wedding ceremony, and then scrutinized it to make sure her inheritance was covered. If I was Pedro I'd be pissed. What a way to start a marriage. I'd hate to have them as in-laws.
It may be different in other states, but in CA, an inheritance is not community property. Chantel, or whatever her name is, could have married Pedro without worrying about him ever being granted a portion of her parent's estate.
As for "Mommy and Daddy", a lot of children grow up and never change their names for their parents. It's a sweet thing.

Lol, I'm guilty of that too though. I still use the same name as what I called them when I was a kid. It just seems like their names, what I call them...not "mom" or "dad" because that's never what we called them. I mean you know, like how some people might call a grandparent booboo or something unusual and it sticks for life because that's what it started as for the kid. In fact my grandmother did have a weird 'name' that we called her that was just a weird thing our cousin came up with when very little, nonsensical. But it stayed!
This was a scripted scenario dreamed up by the writers and producers of the show. A prenup is ridiculous because Chantel and Pedro don't even have the resources to PAY for a prenup, let alone to have anything to protect with one. It makes no sense and the parents could protect their assets in other ways.
Someone DID write that adults calling their parents Mommy and Daddy is being a baby all your life. That is incorrect because babies cannot speak. (For some reason the comment was removed.)
It often happens that children grow up and do not change the names/endearments with which they address their parents. There is nothing wrong with that. To suggest so is just mean-spirited.

I wish Chantel and Pedro just eloped. They could have come clean about their relationship and then gone off and got married anyways. Chantel's parents are extremely controlling and it's no wonder she was afraid. I don't blame her for what she did. In fact, if I was in her shoes, I would have done the same thing. Except I would have eloped.
But then again, I hate weddings anyways and want to save my own greedy ass the money.

I highly doubt that any of it was real. They were probably one of the most fake story lines on the show.
Now, if they were real... that's even worse.
I absolutely despised her family. Extremely controlling and extremely rude. River gave me the creeps, kind of a weird jealous incest vibe. It was more then just a protective brother.
The parents were very tacky with the prenup.
Chantal is extremely immature and controlling.
Pedro... I'll pay for the flight home buddy, run and run fast if any of this was for real.
