This show is hilarious!!!

I love, love, love Louie Anderson as the mom!! Also love that Chip has a twin named Dale and Zach plays both parts. This is the best thing on TV right now.
Can't wait to find out where the dad is and who will play him.

So funny! I didn't realize Zach was playing both parts. Louie is the reason I watch, but I also love Martha.

reply

How could you not realize that? They're both cleary Zach Galifianakis :/

reply

!God, I LOVE THIS SHOW. Very strange, and funny in a very strange way.

reply

I don't know anything about the man. For all I know, he could have a twin or an identical cousin who "adores the minuet."

reply

It's played by Seth Galafanikis ;)

The show is brilliant. Normally when I watch a show I delete the episodes right after, but these episodes have been saved on the DVR. Too damn good not to re-watch it all once the season is over.

I like the show too, but I especially like Louie as Mom Baskets. He has always been a delightful comic, and this is a perfect fit for him as her. She totally owned Penelope Ebert in the last episode. The people with the negative comments about this show don't really appreciate real comedy.

how do you know the dad will be on?
its my new favorite show. it makes me laugh so hard! love it!

reply

It's a good show, but hardly hilarious. Because it's not meant to be a comedy. At least not in the traditional sense of TV-watching "comedy."

'Baskets' is very much an existential drama about the angst of the sad clown. Induces a wry smile now and again as you watch the clown's heart break. Over and over.

Take a look at the terrific Pagliacci-like poster shown here of Baskets with the blue eye makeup running down in tears. Although done tongue-in-cheek I'm sure, it still gives you the tenor of the show.

reply

It's a sitcom.

It's slightly surreal and 'darker' than many comedies, but it's still a comedy. I wouldn't even categorize it with comedic dramas like Six Feet Under.

reply

I like Louie Anderson when he adds a warm twist. Growing up, it seemed to me he was too condescending and sarcastic. But add a bit of misguided parental warmth and the sarcasm shines through just right.

"We have trains in Europe".

"Yes, but these are American, so they're better".

i really like the show, but i would never call it "hilarious". the funny bits are funny, but the feeling of melancholy is strong.
