Glad this movie didn't explain it *spoilers for this movie and Pandorum*

I see so many people complaining about the "zombies" in this movie even though the movie did nothing to explain them and didn't even try to rationalize them. They just existed. It allows the viewer to use their imaginations to figure things out.

It seems like a given that the earth was getting colder everywhere, otherwise I doubt they would have stayed in the snow and the creatures wouldn't have evolved to tolerate it. So I think there was some kind of global cooling event that started putting the earth into a sort of ice age. Man kind, desperate to find a way to survive, tries to create something to accelerate human evolution so we can adapt to live in the cold. Sort of like the movie Pandorum. They gave all of the passengers something to make them evolve to a state where they could survive on the new planet when they got there. Unfortunately, the evolution created the creatures on the ship. Well, in this movie the evolution caused the humans to turn into a type of zombie that wiped out most of the population and then the stuff we created allowed the creatures to further evolve quicker than should be natural to perfectly survive in the new environment. They could resist the cold, they wouldn't really need eyesight with their exceptional hearing and it would be a burden in the blinding snow anyways. Parts of it are still stupid though like how they would need to be shot in the head since they seemed more alive than dead zombies, and how that one creature was able to survive without its arms without bleeding to death.

Also, I think the reason the creatures reappeared after nine years is that it was warming up and the snow was melting. When they saw the sun out they commented that they hadn't seen it in a while. Also, the basement was flooded with water and obviously over the valley was mostly thawed out. Perhaps the warmer climate either woke the creatures up or it drove them to their location since it was colder there and the creatures now preferred the cold. Or there location was warming so it became a new hunting ground for the creatures since it wasn't as cold for them anymore.

My problem with this movie is that is couldn't figure out whether they wanted these to be zombies or infected people that evolved. I liked the evolving human angle more and wish they would have stuck with that. Also ties in to how the creatures are able to call to others like the one did in the end. A dead mindless zombie wouldn't do that. Also, the fact that if it was really that cold for that long everywhere, there wouldn't have been anywhere near that many animals to feed on since there wouldn't be many plants available to sustain them. Their surprise at seeing the sun just shows that there was no growing season each year.

Other than that, I liked the movie. The military beginning was stupid as always and at the end the characters became dumber than the creatures they were fighting but it was still a pretty good movie for what it was.

Putting "Glad this movie didn't explain it" is kind of a spoiler in itself, regardless that you warn there are spoilers in your post.

Not having seen the movie, I would guess you "Glad this movie didn't explain it" means the movie doesn't explain the cause of what kills almost everyone. So if I'm kinda right, your spoiler warning is a little late, considering your title is a spoiler.

NO. "glad this movie didn't explain it" is in no way a spoiler. You have no context for it. He could be talking about any aspect of the movie that he feels doesnt have an explanation.
