How did the kid manage to grow up as stupid as Jan Brady?

I read the post about the kid knew too much. Poppycock! This kid was as dumb as. After 9 years being raised by a single guy, she can't shoot and has no survival skills whatsoever. I doubt she could skin a rabbit and since almost all of humanity is gone, her future is quite simply to be a breeder.

I would have taught that kid the important stuff from the get go. How to survive. Tell her everything you know about the creatures and teach her to understand the world she lives in. Sure maths, science, cooking and all that stuff is important but she needed to be taught how to live in their version of a new world, not to mimic Jan Brady!

Suspension of belief/disbelief in a movie is impossible for me unless I'm given a reason to ignore such things. This movie failed to do so.

My partner just commented that perhaps the father guy wanted to give her as normal an upbringing as possible. Yes that's perfectly normal in a post-apocalyptic world. NOT!

That's my 2 cents and no, you can't have it!

Not if you have the kind of Dad that populates America nowadays. Keeping their ignorant kids in a stupid bubble. Luckily kids have friends and the Internet to open their eyes.

I didn't see the movie from the beginning, but even I know you missed a major point. The dad left the house as little as possible. He didn't want to be outside and he didn't want his daughter outside.

Perhaps it was naieve of him to think they could stay cooped up forever, but he was going to try.

Only thing i was working on in my mind the whole movie. In this environment she should know how to be prepared from the get go.

What does not make sense: Her "Father" could think that all is done in the world outside. But then why keep yoursellf inside all the time? If he thought its not over he should teach her.

Conclusion: He was a dumb *beep*
