Explanation for climate

Is there any explanation in the movie for the constant cold weather? I was thinking this was due to nuclear winter, but I don't think that is explained in the movie.

No idea

Global cooling probably. Global warming is a hoax anyway so.

They chose to live in the town of Harmony because it was a great town to get everything they need. And snow makes for good tracking. It is never stated anywhere that the Earth was covered in snow or ice. If you look at the final shot, you will see that not everything is snow covered or cold.

It did though say that the monsters had gone because the snow and cold had killed them.

I certainly didn't get the impression that they were referring to the monsters just locally affected.

This was baffling to me too. And there was no attempt made to explain it. Its like filming a movie where everyone wears orange shirts and its never mentioned once and theres no clear reason for it. I just assumed something terrible had caused it just like something terrible had cause the zombie apocalypse. Would have been nice to know though.

Patrick spoke of playing hockey as a kid. I assumed, for the sake of the movie, that it was a cold, cold weather country. No idea why it would never be warm.

Another weather thing that was sort of baffling was the lack of regard for the frigid temperatures with main characters (Jack, Patrick and the daughter) being frequently under dressed, lacking gloves, hats and for god's sake leaving the damn door open allowing what pathetic little heat they had to escape. Director error.

I think that's the point. If the world fell apart like that you wouldn't know why the climate changed or how it happened. There's no TV, radio, internet, contact with others.

reply

One presumed that they were living in that climate deliberately. Cold is a zombie killer.

Bored now.

Without mankind's activity, e.g. farming, we would of already enter another glacial period, as we are currently in an intergacial of an ice age.
