The Abbys were a lot like the infected: fast, strong, white eyes (although not blind), adapted sense of hearing, no hair. In the WP books the winters were longer each year, I don't think this was referenced in the TV show though.

shareThere was something about them while I was watching the film that was gnawing at me (no pun intended - lol) That is totally it! Wayward Pines....I wonder if there might have been some of the same F/X people involved between the two projects in terms of creature design - although it seems this film was basically all done in Europe....
Good catch there on that though!
The creatures also reminded me of the vampires in Priest (2011) and the setting is very 30 days of night.
The abbies in the tv version of WP were very different though, especially when they found the female.
