It's incredible in all these movies how trained soldiers are easily overrun by mindless zombies, but untrained heroes managed to fight them off.

Give an untrained hero a gun and he'll wipe out 20 or 30 beasts with little effort. Give a soldier a gun and he gets killed by the first beast to appear.

Matthew Fox takes out several with single shots at the end of the movie

Hollywood is so keen to denigrate the US Army - USAF are always wicked, insane, plotting, stupid, but rarely the good guys - that they never cope with a simple hoard of zombies. Thankfully islamists aren't as clever as zombies, or they'd have wiped out USAF in Iraq and Afghanistan within a week.

US Army is just a bunch of pussies, that's why. Also stupid soldier is kinda redundant, these two words are like synonyms.

The reason islamists haven't wiped your precious *beep* is because there are too few of them and you got more guns and more stupid soldiers to protect your sorry ass.

Last I checked, Islamist preferred to target civilian women and children more than soldiers.

Soldiers are pussies and stupid? I guess you never served in the military. Because if you did, you would never say such disgusting things. Most soldiers are college graduates. I bet the longest 8 years of your life was the fifth grade. Go live in an Islamic country, if you already don't. No one wants to hear your propaganda.

The US allows people to join the army before they are old enough to drink or rent a car without a co-signer.

Those of us who are honest will admit we were stupid in our late teens and early 20s.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.

Actually, Hollywood closely collaborates with the US military and the Pentagon. According to a Pentagon publication titled "A Producer's Guide to U.S. Army Cooperation with the Entertainment Industry", the purpose of this collaboration is to, quote: "aid in the recruiting and retention of personnel."

The Pentagon maintains similar ties to the video game industry, which is why so many violent war games are rated T. Just like many war movies are rated rated PG-13. Gotta recruit / radicalize kids while they're young. Sex bad, drugs bad, war good. Wanna have fun, kids? Join the army and shoot people for a living. So much for the idea of a liberal Hollywood.

Of course zombie flicks are a different beast than military-glorifying, Arab-stereotyping war movies, because the audience wants to see everyday civilians brave a post-apocalyptic world. If the military in zombie films were competent and did its job, there would be no apocalypse in the first place and the movie would be over in 20 minutes.

It's nothing personal against the military or the police - it's that scary movies (especially zombie movies) need to have a high body count to feel "authentic," and a "generic" person in a uniform can die spectacularly without any time wasted on character development. They do the same thing in superhero and action movies - The Joker took out how many police easily, but somehow the main characters manage to escape the building/bomb/flood etc. Same with Godzilla. The rules are, if you're in a uniform, a slutty blonde, or a beloved pet dog, you will die horribly.

Excellent points. If I see an animal in a horror movie, I grit my teeth waiting for the killing scene. Hard to stomach and I wish they'd stop with that cliche.
