Kurt Russell is a terrible actor

I'm surprised nobody else has mentioned this. He alone made me want to turn off the movie early. I wish I had by the time I got to the end, though he was thankfully killed off well before the end. It seemed like he was told by the director to "act blustery" and boy did he turn up the bluster. Problem was I couldn't buy it, from his first sentence (or shout, I should say). You would think Tarentino could get good actors, unless said actors' agents looked at the script and knew this was a turkey. (Also S. Jackson's routine is getting tired and worn.)

reply

Really have to disagree. Have you seen him in The Thing? It's one of his best performances.

reply

He was good in Hateful 8 also, I thought. I think he was just following Tarantino's direction for the character.

reply

I think it's the opposite. The thing is not a movie with even acting it and who cares. It was a pointless stupid haunted house movie not even half as good as the original movie from the 50's ... and that is damn hard to do.

So, I say acting blustery for a blustery character would actually be good acting. I thought he was great in this movie, as were the others. Tarantino has really mastered the art of the ultraviolet comedy ... I have to give him that. He's carved out his own niche genre and it can be funny. TH8 hit the spot pretty well I thought.

A movie like this is not to win anybody any acting awards, it's all about the violent contrived absurdities - anyone who pretends to see or care about acting here is just being kind of pompous and snobby.

It's ranked somewhere in the middle of my list of Tarantino films. If you are a fan of his work, I think you will enjoy it.

I really loved Tombstone and agree that Russell was great in that.

Totally disagreed, he is actually brilliant in this film. Ever see Breakdown? Brilliant in that as well. Stargate? Not bad.

reply

Definitely. He's outstanding in Breakdown. Way too underrated movie.

reply

Give me a break ... Kurt Russell might be a good actor if he ever got a role that demanded he actually act ... nothing anyone is praising him for had any acting in it. I'd point to this, which is appropriate behavior for the role, and Bone Tomahawk both pretty horrible movies except for the farcical aspect of them as being pretty good.

reply

Yet not even an Oscar NOMINATION for this "great" actor!

reply

Have you seen Miracle Or his Elvis thing. He was the mayor of Golden Globe city right there!

reply

his Elvis thing.

Yes. Absolutely.

& bless Dick Clark for getting that onto celluloid.

reply

Can you please post the link to your IMDB page so we might peruse the list of awards you have been nominated for?

reply

I'm also not an actor.

reply

I’m just waiting for the link to your IMDb page

This is the type of extended one-on-one discussion that helped ruin the IMDB message board. I will not indulge you any longer--you should have let the discussion die with my last comment, which was a pretty good joke. Fini.

reply

I think what ruined IMDb was people like you giving away spoilers and saying they hate actors or movies for no reason. J law sucks because she sux and is a bad person

reply

I really hate that kind of illogic, probably anyone could find a million reasons you have no right to be bothering the world with your opinions, but that is what we do here on the Internet ... some of the are even interesting. Not yours of course! ;-)

reply

Completely disagree, his performance in this may have been a little abrasive and not to everyone's liking, I think that's mainly due to his character, but definitely not a terrible actor by any stretch.

I noticed Russell was stiff and amateurish in this film. He was also trying to imitate John Wayne's speech pattern, but he wasn't anywhere near as natural an actor as Wayne was.

reply

John wayne was one of the least natural actors of his time.

reply

John Wayne was one of the most natural actors of all time. In contrast, guys like Brando and Dean were ridiculous hams.

reply

Just because you don't like the character does not mean the actor is bad.

reply

Have you heard of a actor named John Wayne?

Are you a fan?

If not, you have to hand in your man card.

Kurt Russell was trying to channel John Wayne in this movie.
