Question: Would you watch this...

over and over again? I thought it was pretty good, but I wouldn't watch it again.

Agreed, it's a one-off.

reply

Already watched it twice. If my gf wants to see it, I would be willing to sit through it again. 

I've seen it (and I'm only estimating) 20 times at least.

reply

No kidding? That has to be a joke.

I've lost count of the amount of times that I have seen it - at least 10 ...

reply

Amazing. I couldn't see the point, unless you just like gore.

Doesn't make sense. The gore is not prevalent throughout. It's only a few short bits.

OK, violence, misogyny, Gay sex fantasy, racial epithets, vulgarity, anachronisms, and gore.

Tension. Good characters. A mystery. Quirky dialogue. Great cinematography. Sam Jackson.

Gay sex fantasy

Why is that in the same line as violence, misogyny, and racial epithets?

Let's be bad guys.

reply

It's QT's fantasy, I guess. he wrote it.

Gay sex fantasy

(not that there is anything to critique about that - only the fact that it is supposedly hidden and not stated outright)

Absolutely

This is one of the keys to the film

The whole picture is a love letter to Samuel L. Jackson ... especially the dingus story, and the way in which it celebrates him, with that wicked and lascivious tongue licking. Major Warren enjoyed that event in the snow and it was not for the political and racial impact ...

Consider too the fact that the last men left standing are lying together in a sweaty and bloody state, gleaming, on a double bed having bonded together against a woman

I don't think you quite understand gay sex.

imo

Misogyny??? When? Where?

Why can't you be a non-conformist like everyone else?

Sure I did.

Ha! :D I think he wanted to know which SPECIFIC scenes were "hatred of women".

I know, if he watched the film he should know.

Only if everyone follows your non-logic, which we don't. You can't name the scenes because they don't exist. The end.

Why can't you be a non-conformist like everyone else?

You repeated your premise, not answered my question.

reply

No I didn't.

OK then, off you go to play somewhere. Send me a message if you can ever come up with an answer to my question because I doubt I'll monitor this silly thread any further.

That's great!

Agreed. Not for serious watching at least, merely for background watching whilst doing something else.

reply

I've watched it at least a half dozen times.

Curse of movies with too much dialogue. You can usually only watch them once.

Maybe years from now, I will watch it again. I enjoyed it.

Ha!  Quite the opposite...for me anyhow! It's the things they say and the way they say it (vocal inflections, gestures, movement, what they say with just their eyes, etc.) that is part of the joy of watching again. I mean, the first time around you can't catch all the hidden meanings of the things they say or the way they say them which informs their true characters/agendas.

The first time around didn't notice how much Oswaldo Mobray did a weird vocal fry that was kind of camp but much more amusing to me on subsequent watchings. He was sort of like a cross between John Cleese and some other cheesy british actor. It was like he was trying to sell me a car that we both know is a lemon...'but oh, why not ol' chap!' 

And...I didn't even notice that Daisy crossed herself as she was being hanged until, at the earliest, the second viewing.

Joe Gage always seemed to move very deliberately slow and with an economy of movement/motion.

I enjoyed these people and the things they were saying. Excellent actors all around. They excel at their craft...and their craft IS dialogue.

...and as I indicated a few posts ago. I watched the movie for my third time with my girlfriend. I will undoubtedly watch it again...either in part or whole. 

I didn't think it had too much dialogue. It didn't have enough believable dialogue.



reply

In a movie designed for dialogues, having too much "believable" dialogue is a suicide. If I wanted believable, I would go talk to a person in real life.

I have yet to see a movie where the dialogue is believable.

reply

I don't think realism is bad. It helps me suspend my disbelief.

What we got here is... failure to communicate!


reply

I don't think it's entirely bad. I just think that it doesn't work with the theme of the movie unless it's a love story or some drama.

A bit of realism is OK in other genres, just not a LOT of it.

Of course in the end it's a person taste. I am sure you and others enjoy it differently. I don't mind. :P

reply

I remember thinking I'd never watch Inglorious Basterds again. Same thing with Django. I liked them, I just felt like once was enough.

I think by now I've watched Basterds at least five times, and Django three times. So yeah I'm pretty sure I'll watch Hateful Eight again someday.

reply

I actually own IB, and I've only seen it once. Django is on Netflix and I wouldn't watch it again. OTOH, I've seen Jackie Brown many times, as I have Pulp F and Res. Dogs.

reply

Figures. I've seen Jackie Brown twice, and it was many years before I finally felt like watching it the second time. His weakest and least watchable movie by a wide margin, IMO.

reply

Weird, huh? Most of what he's made since is very juvenile, imo.
