Wow, this sucked. And, I really liked "Django Unchained."

"Django Unchained" was a lively, entertaining story that moved, had compelling characters, had a great finale, and even had a semi-happy ending. It was a success.
"The Hateful Eight" is a long, drawn-out, one-set, sadistic, unpleasant, three-hour mess, with only a few moments of interest. It's a flop.

Ditto that!

Double-ditto that. Except the part about Django having a great finale. Its third (and fourth) acts kept it from being a masterpiece, in my opinion, and rendered it an under-achieving, immature, sloppy, POS.

reply

Double negative that. This movie is awesome and Django was a mess.

^^For a second i thought *I* wrote that comment because you're so right. Django has this "mass appeal" quality to it but there very little care/thought put in to the execution and dialogue. It just appears cool and hip on the surface.

Hateful Eight is QT actually making an educated, methodic film. So i guess not surprising people cant tolerate it. If you arent sucked in by the slow/brilliant character building when Mannix is in the stagecoach, then you dont get the movie and should turn it off there.

This was just another movie for infantile man-children to feel 'deep.' Not half as good as most of his other work

reply

I have to agree. Django had really great parts, but fell apart somewhere in the latter stages.

The Hateful Eight worked beautifully all the way.

Completely irrelevant to the reasons why the movie didn't work for you. Also, what were you expecting with that title? If you think this is sadistic, don't see or "Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom", anything by Michael Haneke or "The Great Silence". THOSE were sadism and unpleasant as hell to experience (and great achievements because of it, in my book). Also, what does "one set" have to do with a dislike of a film? There are plenty of movies that take place in one setting and manage to do just fine.

Oh my god this movie... I don't know where to start.

1. Trusted IMDB rating (How the *beep* did it get so high rating?).
2. Fell asleep after 1 hour.
3. Got a huge yelling from my GF by picking this stupid retarded movie.
4. Tried to tell her it's interesting "I can't judge it yet because I haven't seen it all" (when during that time in my head, "wtf did I just do", "i don't even like this movie, why am I *beep*

IMO; The Ranking of Tarantino films goes...:
1. Django Unchained - One of the best Action "western's" of all time.
2. The Hateful Eight (A close second) - A mystery/thriller western that builds up from a tense but leisurely pace into a perfect climax and has nearly all EXCELLENT performances from EVERY major character in it.
3. Everything else. 

I didn't think it sucked but it definitely wasn't as good to me as Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill, Django & Death Proof was. It sure was a hell of a lot better then Inglourious Basterds & Jackie Brown though.
