When did this become the Hateful Movie?

So many people on this board dissing the film. I don't get it. It was enjoyable, I thought and many people I know thought so too. People are citing a lot of dialogue and not much action. Have you never seen a western? Gunfights usually last only a couple of seconds until someone's dead. Other than that, there is typically a lot of talking and buildup. Also about the misogyny and racism, it was a different time. Most of what happened in the movie wouldn't fly today but it was likely the norm in the old west.

I thought the acting was quite good and the characters were the ultimate anti-heroes. I don't know if the general public feels the way this board does, or I should just chalk it up to "well that's IMDb for ya."

Victims, aren't we all?

I don't get the hate either. I watched the 70mm roadshow version in theaters last year and loved it. Anyone who knows Tarantino should know that he loves two things...dialogue and violence. This is his purest film in that regard since Reservoir Dogs. I loved the slow buildup in this film...it's like Tarantino took the tension in the opening scene from Inglorious Basterds and made a whole movie out of it.

Are people really offended by the portrayal of misogyny and racism in this movie?

I watched the 70mm version too and yes, it was awesome. I wish they released that version on BD, streaming or something but I still have the "playbill."

Yep, unfortunately. Go through the posts on the board sometime. It's like people didn't expect the characters to behave that way in that time. The most popular criticism is about how John Ruth was roughing up Daisy.

Ha, yes I have the playbill too. Great collector's item! So they have not released the extended roadshow version on Bluray?

As for people being offended by this film, it's called The Hateful Eight and it's made by Tarantino. I don't think anyone should assume the characters in this film are role models. They're all despicable in their own ways, except maybe poor OB who was just driving a wagon.

Nope and as far as I know, no plans to do so as of yet.

I agree also on the characters, the filmmaker, etc. People are just too sensitive to everything now. It's akin to people saying they don't like when an animal is killed onscreen. It's like hello, it's a movie. Not like it really happened.

THIS MOVIE SUCKSSSSSSS.

Tarantion has done some great work in the past, Reservoir Dogs, Django Unchained etc. But the guy i has become kind of hit or miss.

Jackie Brown sucked and Death Proof was un watchable. This movie wasn't that bad, but it certainly wasn't good.

It looked good but the plot didn't go anywhere. Just tension on top of tension, till ultimately you go numb to it.

None of the characters are likable or even developed so you don't care what happens to them.

Think about that scene in Resevior Dogs where Kietel and Madsen get in each others face. Its like watching 2 hours of just that.

i told you not to stop the boat. Now lets go. Apocaylpse Now

I agree with a lot of what you said. However, when you gave a summary on westerns in general, Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven came to mind. That was arguably the best western ever made and it was not full of dialogue like the hateful eight. I really wish Eastwood would make another western. If not act in it, then write and direct it at least.

I think the biggest problem was too much dialoge from annoying charcters like tim roth an english actor for some came up with a high pitched squeaky imitation of an english person. The guy who played chris mannix tried too hard to be a southerner and talked way too much with his fake accent. The mexican guy sounded like a drunk white guy imitating a mexican. The n word will always offend some people and its overused in this movie. I also thought the black penis story was disgusting and unnecessary. Im sure the major was trying to belittle his white prisoner but unless he is homsexual I think it would make him look more stupid then the white guy. If it were me if I hated someone, being a heterosexual, I wouldn't come home and tell my friends yeah I made him suck my d**k. Also I thought if they wanted to get daisy back it prolly would have been a lot easier to just ambush john ruths coach instead of killing everyone at Minnie's.
