It is very hard to fool Chris Mannix

He deduced the Lincoln letter was a lie. It was a lie that fooled John Ruth. The Lincoln letter was very well-written and looked authentic.

He also saw through Daisy and her remaining men's lie that there were "15 men waiting in Red Rock" if this attempt to free her was unsuccessful. He saw it was a bluff and called her on it when she was the last one left.

It is very hard to fool Chris Mannix.

I loved his character ! I like his ingratiating manner i.e. upon seeing Dern he say, " Well cut my legs off, and call me shorty ...,

reply

Really? That line kinda bothered me because Tarantino got it wrong, imo I've always heard it said as "well cut my feet off and call me shorty."

"Stick with me, baby, and you'll be fartin' thru silk."

reply

I stand corrected, but I still love the line and haven't stop laughing since first hearing it!

Ruth believed it because he had some level of respect for Warren. Mannix, initially, had NO respect for Warren. So of course, he didn't buy the letter from jump.

This is why I believe we are meant to gather that Daisy was lying about the 15 gang members in Red Rock. If it doesn't pass Mannix's smell test it's probably not meant to pass ours either.

I think the only possible time Mannix didn't get it right was in concern to General Smithers' son. He was correct that Warren was trying to goad him into going for the gun, but Warren hadn't heard the General talking about his son, meaning Warren -at least- encountered Chester and may have very well at least killed him. Mannix was clouded right then by how much he respected the General-- much like how Ruth was clouded by the Lincoln Letter due to his reverence of Lincoln and respect for Major Warren.

I just bet you would want to know what his nuts taste like.

He knew who poisoned the coffee too!

Well, his logic wasn't very scientific (he figured the "ugliest" one did the poisoning) but it was correct...
