Sir Francis Bacon

Sir Francis Bacon holding the original Shakespeare scripts that he wrote, says to himself, "I need to find a good place to hide these...I know, I'll take them halfway around the world and put it all in a hole 170 feet deep under water. And just to make sure they stay nice and safely protected, I'll add a bunch of booby traps designed to flood it!" Really?

reply

Also, why would Shakespeares manuscripts be considered so valuable and worthy of such an elaborate and remote hiding place AT THAT TIME? It would be like taking JK Rowlings notebooks to the center of Antarctica now

reply

I'm still surprised Sir Francis Bacon, known as somewhat of an aristocrat, would walk around the island with a hole in his pocket, dropping loose change and buttons all over the Ball lots.

Perhaps it is best to use a Bacon quote to sum up the entire Oak Island "mystery":

"Hope is a good breakfast, but it is a bad supper."

It's ok to start out hopeful, but if the thing in which you've placed your hope isn't going to occur, you will surely be disappointed.

reply

Booby traps that, when triggered, would destroy the thing they're supposed to be protecting.

That's one sad thing about all the treasure hunting that has been done over the years...

If there is treasure there, and if some of it is sensitive to the effects of water...

Think about all those holes that have been drilled, that later filled with water.

If the Chapel Vault is a real treasure vault, and it was drilled into, I guess it is flooded now.

reply

Not to mention, let's say the treasure is real and is in one of these holes- if there were actual artifacts that were whole and were somehow preserved for all this time down there, now it's been repeatedly drilled into by serious heavy machinery on several occasions, exposed to salt water and god knows what else that was dumped into the holes over the last hundred years, probably destroying anything of value in the process.

Anything that was able to be brought up and out of the hole with a hammer grab would likely be smashed to pieces and worthless.
