Looks like their investors made as many poor choices as the people wasting their lives searching for treasure in natural caves found beneath an island surrounded by water.

They're not trying to find anything, they're trying to keep the show and the 'mystery' alive so they can monetize the island as a travel adventure destination A La Loch Ness Monster... Or gold rush folk that like panning for gold where there is none. That's the investment.
