How long do you think before they start hyping it up/advertising?

The movie comes out allegedly in less than 10 months, and finished filming some time ago. For such a major franchise revival with some high-quality filmmakers attached, Lionsgate has been pretty mum on the film. How long do you think it'll be before they start trying to build hype, let out bits of information and start with advertising of some form?

I was actually surprised they didn't do more in 2016. I assumed that given Saw's level of prestige in the world of horror, we would have heard a lot more by this point. Even if just some more official announcements, maybe a few teaser images or some light viral marketing. They should be trying to build up the return of the franchise for not only hardcore fans, but general movie-going audiences who might have drifted from the series in the meantime.

And FURTHERMORE, this is my signature! SERIOUSLY! Did you think I was still talking about my point?

I wouldn't be surprised if God Particle is giving them cold feet. I hope we see it this year, but I'm not so positive it'll be the case anymore. Depends on the quality of the movie, I'm sure they'll do test screenings internally.

Yeah, some of the competition has me spooked. These sort-of franchise revivals are always a big gamble, and they can backfire if the timing isn't perfect.

I've said it before and I'll say it again... I almost think it might be interesting if they moved the franchise away from traditional theatrical releases and more towards modern digital releasing. Like give it a limited-run 2-3 week theatrical release in select theaters or with a specific chain for the hardcore fans who want to see it on the big-screen, but then make it available shortly after on VOD and streaming services for rental. Then roll it out onto Netflix a couple months later and DVD/Blu-Ray shortly after that. (Similar to what they did for the last Paranormal Activity, which made a moderate profit at theaters from the hardcore fanbase, but didn't require too much investment since it only got a 2-week engagement at AMC theaters) The series is so episodic in nature that I almost think doing a more digitally-sided release like this might be a benefit to it. Plus, it would be less restrictive.

Probably Comic Con or something. Saw movie productions are always kept a secret until around that time period. However, this was filmed almost a year prior to release, so we might see something earlier as well. I recommend they start earlier considering how long the series has been away.

I strongly suspect the reason it was shot earlier was for scheduling reasons with the directors. They have another movie coming soon. I guess Comic-Con it is. We'll see how it goes...

It's a little strange that they haven't at least released an extremely tame teaser trailer by now to at least build up the hype. In the past they really didn't have to do much marketing because people knew every year a Saw movie was coming out. But this is the first time in over 6 years that a film is coming out and they need to remind people. If I was them I would just release a teaser of like 15-30 seconds of jigsaw billy the puppet talking and then have Jigsaw say it's not over just yet, something like that.

I think it would be a mistake to wait until Comic-Con like in the past because that's over the summer so that would basically give them 3 months to market the movie.
