Perhaps Lyonne being a former heroin addict helped channel a clearly brilliant performance in a sadly "meh" kind of movie. I was SO excited to see the trailer, and unsurprisingly Lyonne & Chloe Sevigny were spectacular, especially together (was anything ad-libbed?). But so much more could've been done to make Antibirth more focused, scarier, and just, well, better.
For one, I've never even tried drugs, but I am a child of totally drugged out hippies, so I think it's fair to have an opinion on this: the absolute non-freaking-stop drug use overshadowed great acting & what could've/would've been a cool(er) story. A shameful lost opportunity, but still a 6 as a comedy anyway. It wasn't a waste of time to me, but that was ONLY because of Lyonne + Sevigny. Even the always amazing Meg Tilly's acting was "so-so" & a WTF addition.
Definitely check Lyonne out in Slums of Beverly Hills & of
course Orange is the New Black if you haven't already. Here's a great interview ...
