I found this very good
I was put of seeing this in the cinema as it got some bad reviews.
I remember the same happened with Hook but I watched it and hated it.
This however was really good.
I knew it was a prequel so was expecting a brand new story and while this story isnt going to win any awards it all makes sense with regards to the books and the Disney animation.
What was brilliant in this film was visually it was stunning, It had amazing use of vibrant colours, beautiful landscapes that looked like they were from a fairytale !!
There was also the darker side of Neverland with the mines.
The music was excellent and the songs added a playfullness that you need with Peter Pan.
At first or through most of the film I was confused by Peters character as he seemed nervous and whimsical which isn't really Peter Pan.
Its only when he learns to fly and decides he is the chosen one. The chief doesn't actually call him the chosen one. I liked that touch as it showed how Peter will develop into this cocky boy full of bravado which comes out only in the last 5 minutes.
There are a few bits of the film that possibly required further explanation or deeper story telling but being a kids film I understand why it never gets too deep.
Also we got a proper Croc, Visually very good.
I wish this was around when I was a kid instead of Hook.
Its a shame it flopped a little as id like to see the next chapter and see how Hook and Peter fall out.
One of the mist visually stunning and magical films i've seen in a while especially the second half.
Also the character of Smee was a scene stealer.
Rooney Mara was fine as Tiger Lily but not a Native American, even chief was from an Aboriginal background so they didn't match.
Not a major issue I guess but its the only thing that doesnt fit right.
Nirvanas Smells like Teen Spirit was a pleasant surprise and worked well for the situation.
Good film overall, yeah certain elements could have been better but it definitely deserves a 7.5/10
