Spoiler - did anyone else ...

... get the disturbing feeling that, when she was bashing the doll's head on the cot, hubby was gonna come home and we'd find out it was actually the baby she was bashing (demons being masters of deception and all that ...) ?

Not knowing anything about the film, I thought that was a possibility, however given the stereotyped and "safe" ending that came about 5 minutes later, it clearly wasn't going to happen.

reply

No, but I would have liked that. It would have upped the horror factor on this otherwise very, very bland movie.

reply

Yes it was bland. Alternate ending involves horrified husband at open bedroom door - dazed mother, cot, and walls covered in blood (nothing more explicit). Pan camera to undamaged doll sitting in background ... then decide whether to end it there, or mother goes out the window of her own volition when the truth of what's she's done dawns on her ... as you said, that's horror.

reply

How about after the pan across the bloody walls, the next scene is set at the funeral, with a baby-sized casket being lowered into the ground...

reply

Yep, which leads us to the opening scene of the sequel - bedraggled and slightly mad looking father (who has moved to Maine to start again after the horror of wife killing baby and then herself) dragging the small, soiled casket up to the Pet Sematary ... that could breathe some life into this boring franchise ... :-)

Spoiler...maybe...I watched a movie similar to the scene you described..i don't remember the name of it..some B movie at 4am on Chiller lol...she took an evil doll or whatever and buried it in the yard..she wakes up the next day and that "doll" she thought she buried was in the crib..you realize she buried the baby...there was never any ghost or whatever she was just crazy ( or PPD idk)

reply

A good horror film doesn't need a twisted ending, i disagree with that, but i n annabelle the ending just came like a cop out, it didn't fit or belong to the movie
