Constructive suggestions to (?Maybe) save the Game and it's Players.
Firstly, the players "In the Trenches" on Both Lines really knock helmets (you'd THINK it was the tackle-related stuff that's Worse.) What if we Eliminate the OTs and Guards on the Offense and the DTs and DEs on Defense.
Speeds Up the Game
Less Big Guys to get Hurt.
Have just a Center against a Nose Tackle and have Four Guys playing One Quarter each (less if they are underperforming or Hurt.)
External Helmet Cap padding is Supposed to help.
Dual Clock Football. As in Chess-instead of 60 minutes playing time, each Team is allotted 39 minutes a piece when on Offense. Special Teams are "Time Warped" (clock doesn't run on kicks and punts) when one team has used op 7.5 minutes-the Quarter/half changes. When you have used up all your Time, if you are ahead, you WIN, if Behind, you LOSE (usually the Dominant Team has more minutes on Offense anyhow. This would accomplish Several Things. First-the Real Turkey Games like the 65-0 Blowouts in the NCAA-would Not Occur anymore. They would be over Quicker. Secondly-it would reduce injuries. Why did Steelers Center Mike Webster's Brain turn to Mush?? Maybe it was because the Seventies Steelers were such a Great Team. They played four more games/year all the times they went to the Superbowl (plus all the practice sessions.) But, also, when playing the weaker teams, the Offense was on the Field maybe Twice as long as their opponents. This equated to much more cumulative trauma.
