Rich white woman has problems

boohoo

There are obviously way too many movies about rich white people, but one of the saddest things about having Alzheimer's is losing your mind and she had a brilliant mind. Her whole life was about education and researching because she was a professor and she lost all that. And professors are generally pretty well off. And her husband was a professor too so...

YOU are a part of the problem. You want to label people just like your imagined enemies do. This story is about something bigger than freaking skin color and money in your wallet. In the end, we all die. There is no stopping Alzheimers- yet.

If you're ever diagnosed with this terrible disease, I'll still feel sorry for you- even though you're a major creep.

She is a hardworking, intelligent, loving woman whose ethnicity and income could not prevent the tragedy that awaits her.

You wouldn't have watched it if it was about a poor bag lady. It's the liberal bias, fantasy -- nice home(s), great careers, beautiful kids, academic healthcare benefits; we all have that, don't we? But, yeah, you can still lose it all. If it was about a bag lady, or a typical single 'homemaker' struggling to pay her bills, too depressing. At least the libs have provided Obamacare for the rest of us poor folks! I am surprised they didn't figure out a way to blame conservatives.

Imagine if she were a factory worker living in rural America, hundreds of miles from any major medical center. She probably wouldn't get diagnosed until way after she'd slip into dementia. By then, she'd get fired from her job, lose her benefits, lose her housing. There'd be no home health care worker. Her family would have to care for her, if they were not working. It would be a different story.

It would be a different story.

My point exactly -- one you wouldn't have watched!

Would it make you feel better if she wasn't rich and wasn't white?
It seems to me like the emphasis of the film is on the disease, but it's clear that her being white and not living in a dumper makes it difficult for you to feel any empathy - because of the above listed factors.

not true; i feel about as much 'empathy' for her as i do ANY fictional character.

Would it make you feel better if she wasn't rich and wasn't white?

no; my point is you wouldn't have watched it if she wasn't -- i'd bet a years pay on that!

I'm quite sure that if situations were reversed, It'd be dismissed as some PC laden. Dare I say it? "White Guilt" or white savior film.

It's all relative...
