Any one else find....?

Maybe I am wrong as I have not lived through this and I hope I never have to quite honestly.

Did it seem to anyone that the husband was quite selfish? (again please don't all engage in flame wars) I am just curious, I mean the woman spent got knows how many years married to this man and he could not even give her one year? I understand It hurts to watch someone you love basically vanish, but I think that he could at least have done that considering? Also he then leaves her to take a job? I understand life goes on but this is something that will happen once to him in his life. I mean this is his wife the supposed love of his life and yeah we see a scene where he cries, but I mean it seemed like he was fed up with her? Anyway I digress, I just couldn't imagine doing that to someone.

It isn't selfish to find the decline of your loved one too painful to bear. To busy yourself with your life and pretend that things are normal. His crying as he hands the care over to Lydia showed the conflict in him about his decision to take the new job and leave his wife in the care of his daughter.

A bird sings and the mountain's silence deepens.

He was selfish. He came off as uncaring towards her throughout the entire film.

I didn't see it as selfish. He looked like he was working for years for this job opportunity. He wasn't going to give it up that easily. As far as taking care of his wife he could have easily taken care of her in Minnesota but she didn't want to go with him. I don't see how spending a year watching a loved one deteriorate is a sign of love. He had to work to keep his sanity.

Alice stopped being Slice. The husband HAD to work. There was MIZvreason fur him to stay behind.

I'm glad the writers of the film made him that way. It was realistic.
