The only thing that justified the trip to cinema was the sound effects, they were really good.
It wasn't bad, but not a fucking masterpiece as many cried in unison.
Cringy humor check!
Forced sentimentality check! check! (daddy, daddy)
You have to pity old Logan, he's a drunk, his claws are not the same and he has nightmares. He swears a lot, because that's what you come to expect. Check!
The villainous villain! No not the one with an oversized gold tooth and a campy prosthetic arm.
And many many more checks in the same vain.
It made it more exciting that Logan wasn't able to easily regenerate anymore... one of the most pointless things I've seen in films are the skeleton battles in Pirates of the Caribbean... Skeletons are killing each other... what's the fucking point? Same if zombies fought each other, same if two indestructible superheroes are fighting. The vulnerability of the characters made this film better than most of its genre.
But the flick was full of slapstick fights, bruce li type of fights where they just jump at you or look someplace else waiting to be killed in the next wave. And talk about the annoying last minute saves.
I prefer realistic fights as well... but we are talking about the superhero genre... where the idea of telepathically mass murdering people and having flesh stronger than steel is already absurd. You either look at the whole thing as a Harry Potter type of fairy tale or you probably shouldn't be watching that type of movie in the first place.
Ye. Superhero genre movies do not work for me. Unless fights are not the main attraction. You can argue that it's not but I will argue that a the genre can't be a saving card, there's always room for evolution.
Who is the biggest fool? The fool or the fool who follows? I mean, there was a huge hype for Titanic back in the day but I didn't go see it because I really don't care for romance drama.
I agree with the 'overhyped' bit. Though - for me, I was expecting a major emotional impact from this film. Yet, throughout the film, I was annoyed the by 'professor x' - for me, either the writers screwed up, or Patrick Stewart overplayed the part to to a point where professor was not even a shell of professor x - but a different character altogether, without even a hint of the old self during the moments of clarity. When his character died, I felt nothing - in fact, I felt relieved - finally, that annoying character is gone.
The problem is, when wolverine died, I felt very little as well.
As far as xmen films are concerned, I was a lot more moved by the fan-hated X3.
The characters were all unlikable. Expecting people to be moved by any of the death scenes was a real miss by the writer. But you know, slap some sad music and some decent acting and it will fool enough of the dullards to pull off its goal.
I really enjoyed the characters and I was moved by both Logans and Xaivers deaths. It felt nice to see them finally getting to die after all the shit they lived through.
