Future society with no cell phones?

Seems like it would have saved them a lot of problems if they were able to communicate when they were separated and I don't understand how that particular invention doesn't exist in the future.

It's easier to control people when they can't communicate. Maybe after the Great War, the Collective decided to do away with these things people can use to communicate outside the official channels. Or, maybe the Great War destroyed enough of the cell towers to kill reception.

I was surprised Silas and Nia (and the support group) were able to get together as much as they could. The Collective were not spying on the citizens to the extent of 1984 or Equilibrium. I thought Nia would get caught going or coming from Silas's apartment, or that they would be seen making googly eyes, and someone would notify Health and Safety.

Why would they need them? They don't have a social life or the need for it and strict rules about everything and don't stray away from those rules: get up in the morning, go to work, go home, shower, go to sleep, repeat.

We don't have a dog. That was just some really violent sex.

In a society with no emotions and few social connections i suppose they wouldn't really need them.

You say no cell phones like that's a bad thing.
