Might Get Some Hate For This

I wouldn't be entirely opposed to a remake, or a reboot of Child's Play. The Child's Play/Chucky franchise is my favorite of all the horror franchises, and I'm excited for the upcoming sequel, but I can't help but want a Child's Play/Chucky movie that starts from scratch.

Although I prefer a sequel over a remake anyday, I wouldn't mind watching a remake, as long as Brad Dourif voices Chucky, I'll always watch new Chucky movies.

reply

In most cases, I'll take a sequel over a remake as well.
It's nothing against the later movies, I just think this series could benefit from wiping the slate clean.
And yes, Brad Dourif HAS to be the voice of Chucky.

reply

Me too. I'd love to see what a new take would be like.

The toy company and the look of the Good Guy.

reply

Absolutely. The options for a fresh Chucky are endless. I remember hearing that MGM was going to move forward with the remake after they did the Poltergeist remake. That probably won't happen now.
Once again, nothing against the later movies, but a fresh start with Child's Play is just more appealing to me.
With a sequel, you're sort of handcuffed to the previous entries. You could argue that remakes suffer the same problem, but with Child's Play/Chucky, I think that it would be better to just work with the original material and add some new stuff, instead of trying to glue multiple stories and characters into the same story.

reply

agreed, but mostly because i'm tired of chucky's stitched up face

i loved his simple emotionless clean look from the Child's Play series

reply

They could actually go and transfer his soul into another good guy doll. It could be interesting if Tiffany decided she was sick of looking at his stitched up face too lol and went on ebay to find an old good guy doll from the 80's and transfer his soul to it. Although, I don't think at this point his soul can transfer anymore. Not sure exactly how the whole voodoo thing works, I thought it was once they hit a certain point after transferring that they can't leave that body. They can always change things though I guess lol..

reply

I love that Chucky is one of the holdouts, not going down the remake trail. The great thing about a doll is that you CAN re-imagine him without having to start over.

reply

Exactly. I used to think I wanted to see horror movies get remade until they basically destroyed all of my favorites. I've swore off remakes altogether now. Make a Chucky sequel, and I'll watch. Start from scratch, and I am done.

A remake would be fine. If it turned out bad they could ignore it and continue with the original timeline. The remake could just exist on its own.

Although it's true they could update Chucky without remaking it. Like within the movieverse, the toy company could come back and introduce a new version of Good Guys. They could understand more words and and have built-in sensors to play games.

There's toys already like that. There could even be an app program or something that lets kids customize their doll's voice and personality.

Except that rarely happens. Often, as with Friday the 13th, when the remake fails to kick off a new series of films, they just do another reboot (8 years later, in the case of that particular franchise). Remakes don't always rejuvenate a franchise. Sometimes they kill it... or cause it to lay low for a long time. It takes long enough to get these Chucky movies made. I fear a failed reboot would be a death nail.

Precisely!

reply

Yeah, I'd rather see a remake. Well, a good remake.

reply

Well you lot got your wishes...I wonder what you all thought of the 2019 remake.

For me Cult of Chucky was a lot better than the 2019 remake.
