Is this any woke?

I like the urban fantasy genre (reading a Daniel Faust one right now, indeed). This is obviously another example of "urban fantasy & private investigator", in the style of Dresden, Felix Castor, Daniel Faust or similar ones. It's a tad repetitive, but it's (or it can be) a nice guilty pleasure to indulge yourself with.

The question: is this any woke? That's the most frequent problem with modern western movies. There's rare exceptions, though. Kind of lighting in a bottle, to find a western movie which isn't woke nowadays, but there's always hope. Is that the case here?

Set in the Climate Apocalypse. Miami looks like Venice.

No it's not. Metacritic is the only reliable indicator left (besides word of mouth of friends with a similar taste) when you want to prevent a waste of time.
Name a movie with a low metacritic score that's good.

Birth of a Nation (1915). One of the top 10 movies in the history of cinema, and the most influential movie ever made from the point of view of cinematographic craft.

It's not that it has a low score. It's not even listed.

Richard Jewell, from Clint Eastwood, according to MC, a 68.

To compare, The Falcon and Winter Soldier was scored a 75. And the last Suicide Squad, a 72. Not to talk about all those "minority" movies with scores above 80 and even 90.

Excellent examples. You've convinced me that Metacritic is useless when the movies are woke. The Richard Jewell score is spot on, though.

It was however a major flaw in the whole movie. We are supposed to believe that we can now revisit memories like going to a blockbuster, but mankind has suddenly lost the ability to build dykes and dams? We already have cities on the planet that are below sea level but aren't flooded like this... but suddenly humans have forgotten how to keep water out? It was very dumb... then you look at the cars that are sitting in what would be salt water and have to wonder why they aren't rusted down to nothing. Some serious logical flaws in the movie.

A gay person appears for 1 second. You should avoid it like the plague.

Sure. And applying that logic, a movie where a church or a cross appears for 1 second must be a Christian movie.

Religious movies require something more than some worshipped place, object or group of people appearing for 1 second. Woke ones are no exception.

there is more than one minority in the film! super woke! cant believe they are giving minorities work in 2021. why can they not make an all-white, all-male, all-straight cast again? this really bothers me.

Yes, this is easily the most frequent problem encountered by filmmakers working in the field of modern cinema.
