No I believe that's just the style of the barrel. Sly, can you expand on why this is major news?
I reserve the right to be wrong since I'm not a gun expert, but it sure looks some kind of choke or suppressor adapter screwed on the tip of the barrel. A person with gun knowledge can easily figure it out.
Some things are interesting about this:
First, it's an adapter that is separate from the gun that must have been bought separately, but the receipt just shows the gun and not the adapter.
It adds a good 5-6 inches to the length of the barrel, so that's pretty significant when determining if could have actually shot himself. Can it humanly be possible?
The SPD is unprofessional in releasing this photo, but in any event keeps the case in the headlines. Why now and what police department takes part in such antics? I don't know what they are thinking, but most likely it's their annual preemptive media show in advance of Kurt's death anniversary. Also, it looks like this SPD detective "Ciesnieski" is personalizing by posing with the gun this adding to more unprofessionalism by the SPD. This is far from over apparently.
Geberth believes that him contacting them in order to say that he is taking part in Soaked in Bleach prompted the "re-looking at." Something might be going on behind the scenes. I'm sure that Statler/Grant has something planned for next month.
About the gun (not) being melted down. It's a fact that Courtney had her attorneys try to get that gun melted down with the excuse for a gun violence cause. It's also a fact that they tried to get the SPD to hand over the entire case file to them and even asked the SPD to destroy it if they wouldn't hand it over. It's also a fact that she tore down the greenhouse.
So, with the knowledge if her and her attorney's trying to suppress/destroy evidence, it's not entirely implausible to believe that that the shotgun was melted down as the SPD never corrected the record. It appears that the SPD gave other guns owned by Kurt that were in custody and not the weapon at issue. They never corrected the record and probably think they are damaging the case, but quite obviously the opposite is happening.
So to call Grant a "fraud" or to say he loses credibility is just nonsense. This case has not been investigated thoroughly and it's a strange that the SPD never brought up that the weapon was still in evidence. Probably, more investigative carelessness by the SPD if anything.
