She didn't touch it intentionally, everyone on the Anubis was exposed, including the Anubis crew who presumably knew how dangerous it was.

As a woman completely uninteresting but as a character she works as a catalyst to the story. In the end she returned to being the frightened child again she always was on the inside and showed it. Thats what imo was touching about her end.
It was a daughter dying and a father using her death for his scientific and political progress.
