To penetrate the woman who lied to him about speaking to his daughter's dead spirit as payback instead of spending the night on the couch to see his daughter for breakfast next morning -Father of the year!

While you have a point about how he should have stayed home, where his daughter was, it wasn't as if he was having sex with Lucy as punishment. She had been telling him for at least a year that when she was having sex with someone, she could communicate with the dead. The best way he could find to catch her in a lie was to ask her to communicate with Camille... in the way Lucy always (supposedly) had.

Grief makes you harder than Chinese Algebra. Didn't you learn anything from Wedding Crashers? Plus actually Lucy was able to communicate with spirits because in the episode titled Lucy,she was able to know about Jacks father.
