I'm only on the first episode, but why does this show regurgitate the old concept of the last two people on earth repopulating the earth? That doesn't even make sense to a first grader. They have one kid, maybe two, and then what? Do the kids then have sex with each other and produce more children? Why is this even a trope?
All you would do is produce one more generation...
This is not the same thing as the film, "Contact" in which Drumlin told Arroway that her mission to discover life on other worlds was a waste of time because 1, they are too far away or 3 ... they will never, ever make physical contact.
People have reasoned that we don't hear ET out there because we have only been listening for just a short time. It's likely some signals went by 4 billion years ago and those ET's are long gone and, It's possible there are 10,000 civilizations out there right now with our exact same technology but we will never hear from them, either, because by the time their signal reaches us, they will have imploded and we will probably have imploded as well ... That was Dr. Arroways question "How did you do it ?? How did you manage to survive without blowing yourselves up ??"" But, sadly, she never asked the question of Dear Old Daddy because she was too busy wind-surfing for 18 hours ... remember ??
Anyways, this is exactly different than the film, "Contact" on a vastly smaller scale with hope. There could be 10,000 people running around on the planet but so far, only one of them, Tandy, wrote "ALIVE IN TUSCON" on hundreds of billboards. There may, in fact, be 100 other people that finally figured it out and decided to advertise (The search for ET) on billboards as well but with the fuel problem as it is, no one is looking anymore.
Tandy sent some trains out to look for Carol and it's possible someone else may have seen it but no one is in Tuscon anymore and Tandy and Carol did not leave a forwarding address and to tell the truth, I don't know what became of the note Melissa left behind for Carol.
So, here we are once again with the possibility that there are 10,000 people left in the world, some of them may have met and formed small groups of a dozen or so and no one, except for Michael, has actually used a radio to try and contact other people.
Repopulating the planet is a silly idea but, a human idea. Those babies will grow up. They will leave home and explore. Someone is going to reinvent the Marconi.
Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. be kind, rewind...
Good points, however I don't see any reason to believe these other civilizations are similar to us in any way, especially technologically. Its far more likely that all civilizations are at different stages of physical evolution until they step into the virtual; an existence of pure energy where physical reality matters less and less.
Assuming that we are all at the same point in history implies some "intelligent design" BS. Yes, its possible we were intentionally seeded and perhaps other terrans were as well, but its also possible it was an accident, say we grew out of some aliens waste that he dumped from his ship's bilge, then it ended up here on Earth and eventually evolved into all life here. That would give us some relation to the alien, but far far removed. I know what you were saying was just hypothetical, so don't take this the wrong way, just my opinion bra. ;)

Their best bet of communication at this point, and with their technical capabilities, would be to locate, power, and utilize a Ham radio. All they would need is a gas/battery powered generator & time, perhaps they could have it play a recording saying where they where and when they check the radio.
