Wrecking Stuff

You know, one of the things that is starting to bug me about the show is how the characters just wreck everything they come across. I mean, at first, when Tandy thought he was alone he would wreck stuff just because he was bored. And, I suppose, he thought that there was a limitless amount of stuff to break.

But then, he met other people and the group started trying to build a society. And things started to run out and go bad, so there was not a limitless supply of stuff. They did kind of start respecting their surroundings.

And now, after three years of roughing it with camp stoves and sponge baths, they find a self-sustaining building which has everything that they need. And, what do they do, they start right off wrecking everything again. The improvised showers from the sprinkler system will quickly drain all the stored water since there is no way to shut them off. And Tandy's playing hockey with all the dishes. And they are screwing with the electrical system and have no way to fix it if they break it. And Gail's shooting out windows.

I mean, come on. They just stumbled onto a miracle that could keep them living in luxury for the rest of their lives and they are just wrecking it.

After five years, I'd think that the thrill of breaking fish tanks and dishes would wear off, especially when no one else is the slightest bit impressed.

And, once you've drank margaritas from a kiddie pool filled with your own filth, you'd never have the need to do it again.

No, I meant, whats the fun in watching that?

This is a comedy show, not a survival documentary.

This isn't a cartoon. The producers have presented this show as being in the real world. Yes, it is a comedy, but the producers haven't introduced anything magical or supernatural, so it must abide by real-world rules and logic.

The show is certainly cartoonish. It's part of the appeal for me.

Not really... gas/petrol would have turned to gel by now. Something they touched on, but it went away after that episode. You could sit around for hours nitpicking what would work and what wouldn't, but like I said, it's a show for entertainment, not a guide to the end of the world.

reply

Because it's one of the trademarks of the show. The viewers like to see that stuff. Gail shooting a window to get to her booze was one of the funniest things in that episode.

reply

I don't think they're really thinking about the future. "The world is dead, we're on borrowed time, *beep* everything."

The only ones who seem to care anymore are Erika, Carol, and Todd.
I'm sure Tandy does too, but... well... he's a moron.

I hope you don't live in my neighborhood. And if you do I hope you get arrested quickly when you start doing that sort of stuff.

reply

Yes, had the same thought.

reply

I agree. I hate how they do that.
But lots of other stuff about this show is irritating too,
like Tandy's incessant blabber and his insults.
I don't know why I watched it except there was nothing
must better than it on Hulu at the time I had Hulu.

reply

well the world is at your disposal if you are the only one left or a few others as it turns out. things would get quite boring. i loved this show and all their shenanigans. I would do the same thing.
