I just got back from missionary work in Africa

I've been out of the loop the last year, but I've started watching Empire onin my DVR. I'm not seeing Jussie Smolletts character. I must have missed something. What happened?

He faked a hate crime in Chicago where he paid two Nigerian guys $3,000 to pretend to be Trump Supporters, and attack him. Even worse, he did not plan it out very well, and the Chicago police dept. figured out the scam very quick, but due to his political connections, Jussie got off scot-free, and he has really angered a lot of people and embarrassed the people who make the show. So they fired him.

There are several reasons the supposed attack didn't add up for the cops:

1.) He was out getting sandwiches from Subway, at 2 am, in downtown Chicago, while there's a really nasty cold-front coming through. Who the hell goes does that?! Even native Chicagoans are smarter than that!

2.) Nobody white in Chicago goes out at night, much less at 2 am, in the downtown area, while it's freezing.

3.) The two attackers were wearing red "Make America Great Again" hats, which would be a death sentence for anybody white in Chicago. It's a very blue city.

4.) The attackers poured bleach on Jussie, put a noose around his neck, called him homophobic slurs, and identified him as "that gay guy on Empire.".....Nobody white even watches "Empire," let alone even knows this actor exists. And why use a noose in that part of the US, in the 2010s, when you could just use a gun? In fact, nobody has attacked blacks with nooses in over 60 years! And that was only in the South!

So basically, he has made the Chicago Police Dept. angry, and was charged with at least 9 felonies, and yet, the judge was talked into dismissing the charges because of Jussie's connections to Michelle Obama. However, I think the Chicago PD might find a different way to punish Jussie, considering faking a hate crime isn't the only crime he's done. Wouldn't be the first time a criminal that walked free got nailed for something else.
