This show is screwed - Damned if you do

This show has screwed itself with Gretchen's depression. Either they keep it in and the show continues to be boring as hell, or they "fix" her and people will complain that they aren't taking depression seriously.

It's over.

Also why can't a show just be funny anymore? Everything has to be such avant-garde *beep*. Like, "Ooh we're tackling depression... In a comedy". If I wanted to feel like *beep* I would watch a documentary about depression.

I agree. In the first season we weren't meant to feel sorry for anyone other than maybe Edgar. But then, his friends were total dicks to him.

Every once in a while someone did something decent for someone else, but it wasn't celebrated.

Now we are seeing their backgrounds as a way to "understand" why they are the way they are. That means we are supposed to sympathize with them and excuse their bad behavior because we saw that Jimmy's family were turds, or that Gretchen deals with depression.

This is how sitcoms usually work. At some point, the "villain" reveals some past tragedy and gains sympathy from the "hero." Then, the next week the "villain" is back to their sh!tty ways and the "hero" has forgotten that they'd connected previously.

Everyone being miserable sucks. They ruined the show. I liked it much better when it was a comedy.
