Did Vernon say what I think he said?

When he went on his rant after Jimmy, did he say he was born gay? Lol I couldn't really tell and the caption was working....

reply

The caption *wasn't working.

"My father was a petty man. Demeaning. Stingy. I think that's why I'm so scared to be a father. No I have been silent to long. i became a doctor because I was born gay... I regret being born gay, and I regret not being ready to be a father, and I regret going to see the Babadook"

reply

I thought he said he was born dead, which was why he became a doctor.

reply

He did say he regrets being gay. Lol, that whole scene is freaking hilarious!

reply

I unquestionably heard born dead.

reply

He said born dead as clear as can be.

reply

The episode is even called 'Born Dead'.

reply

He says he regrets being "born dead" - this is reiteration of S02E03, where Vernon says he was born dead for 15 minutes before he was revived, which is what inspired him to become a doctor. The conversation occurs between him and Jimmy as they play darts.

reply

Yah he definitely says born dead not gay. Captions confirmed it as well.

reply

Why do I have the feeling that you and others have not watched any other episodes of the show?
Early this season he told the story of how he was "born dead", and that's clearly what he said this time too. Context is a wonderful thing.

I watched all the episodes and I do remember him talking about being born dead, but I didn't put it together cause my hearing sucks and I swore he said gay which didn't make sense....haha

reply

I don't think your hearing was the problem, but to be fair to the actor it's hard to enunciate properly while running. I thought for a moment I'd heard "gay" too, then remembered the story about being born dead and how that's the one thing he'd change about himself if he could. Gay didn't make sense; dead did. But that's how I got the line, not because I could really understand him just then, and my old ears are still pretty keen.

"I won't hold my bread."

episode 3 of season 2 is titled "born dead"
