Wrong subject for this episode

This show is fun, and allows me to both escape from my life and relate to the main characters. Then they made an episode about the crazy side character that is on-its-face political. I despised this worse than the last 30 seconds of the walking dead season finale. I don't really have a point to this, except the show took 22 minutes of joy from my life and replaced it with a pile of emotion that was not meant for you're the worst.

Yes, they did this with the depression story line. Went all serious and took the tone of the show too far in the wrong direction. Hopefully they'll get back to the funny next week.

reply

Strongly disagree; I was sick of the depression because it was week after week but this was one episode that was done perfectly. I don't see this show as a fun escape from life. It has a lot of light moments but it also gives insight into mental illnesses that I have had very little exposure to and so I enjoyed the change. I personally thought this episode should be nominated for an Emmy; the acting, direction, and writing were all exceptional.

Like you, I also enjoyed this episode. It wasn't funny other than Jimmy's comic relief and imo not necessarily poignant, but for a bottle episode I enjoyed their exploration into Edgar's madness.

reply

Oh no... It must really suck for you to have 22 bad minutes. Compaired to people living that life they are showing.

reply

How is the state of mental health of vets a political issue? The world sucks and is broken, so good on the show for making you face it for 22 minutes.

reply

Oh no, a show didn't conform to exactly what you think it should be??? I feel so bad for you. Almost .0000000000000001% as bad as I feel for the people that brilliant 22 mins tried to get you to empathize with.

Edgar is an important character in this show. They have made mention of his PTSD many times, and there is no reason why they shoudl not have actually given us an in depth episode about him and his issue. I thought it was a good episode.
Now if the rest of the season turned out to be about it, then I may have an issue because he is not a main and it would be getting off track.
If people did not see the comedic value in his meeting with the V.A. doctor, played fantastically by Julie White, then I don't know what to do for you.
There is nothing wrong with a show that is a comedy giving us this story and her depression issue. They have actually handled it very well.
Louie got a lot of the same criticism, and he had episodes that were seemingly lacking in the funny according to those critics. Many times it was because they weren't seeing below the surface. That show was brilliant and this show is very good as well.
